Any suggestions where to stay with the van for Edinburgh tattoo please. Somewhere near public transport would be good. Thanks all.

We've stayed at east Fortune Farm but not sure on public transport to/form the area as we had access to a car. Its 20 miles from Edinburgh and run by a lovely family. They have a CL and a holiday site. :thumb:

How about Edinburgh Caravan Club site (open all year)
Marine Drive
Edinburgh
Lothian
EH4 5EN
(N55.977689 W3.264644)

Bus service close by, used to be just outside the gate, but I think the bus stop has now been moved to the main road, still within easy walking distance.

If you are in them try the CCC or CC I know one of them usually run. Rally right on the bus route they sometimes put good entertainment on as well.

If your a member of the CC then try the little CL. At Damhead we use it several times a year. If you come out the gate and turn left its a five min walk to the bus stop at the dry sky slope, depending which bus you get so e are direct and some do a little detour but no longer than half an hour.

If you turn right when you come out the gat its a couple of minutes further but more busses and they get to the city quicker.

The site has hook and fresh and waste water and a WC. the owners are mr and mrs Fergusson and only about £10 a £12 a night.

If you use the CC at Silverknowes its about 15-20 mins walk for the bus and then about 45 mins to city again depending on which one you get. They also do a bus that will collect you from the site and drop you off in town for £5 per person each way which I think is rather expensive.

There's a lovely CL in Roslin (Slatebarns) next to the Roslin Chapel made famous by Dan Brown's book Da Vinci Code.
It's really lovely and within walking distance of a great pub and bus stops with regular bus services into the city. For information, Lothian buses in Edinburgh city are the same price whatever distance you travel. You can get a day ticket for unlimited travel which was £3.50 last time I looked.

Yes, you're right, the bus stop outside the gate has been moved. We've stayed on this site a lot over the last couple of years, the walk to the main road for the bus on Muirhouse Parkway has been shortened because there is now a short cut down the lane that takes you up to the bus stop for the city centre:thumb:
We've booked up for a few days after Christmas and into the New Year this time.

If you walk to the bus stop on Muirhouse Parkway (up through the short cut across the playing fields) and get the 27 bus into the city it is only about 20 minutes. However, don't get on the number 16 bus because it goes through Leith and takes ages:Blush:
