My rear tyre blew on our 1994 Hymer 544 when heading to Folkestone in the summer. Completely destroyed the wheel arch and some of the adjacent floor at the bottom of the cupboard .

Can anyone recommend somewhere to get this repaired near York or is it something you can doyourself?

I have contacted insurers but there is £300 excess and premium will no doubt go up.....

Thank you

sorry, cant help with repairers but one thing i do know.......the repair bill will far outweigh the £300 excess and future premium increases.

could run into thousands

It may be worth having a word with ShiftZZ.
He had a blowout some time ago, (a rear wheel, I think) he may be able to give you a rough idea of repair costs.

Anything is DIY if you have the skills and facilities.

If it's non-structural, looks like you drove it home, then all it amounts to is a bit of flooring and a waterproof lining over the wheel. I'd be guessing at a sheet of aluminium off ebay, form the wheel-arch then a layer of fibreglass cloth to make it waterproof.

It's not rocket science.

But do you have the skills ?
