Hi,
Mary and I are planning to visit Manchester Christmas market in December. Can anyone recommend a camp site that is convenient for us getting into the town centre by public transport. We will be travelling up from Essex.
Thanks.
Doug.

I didn't realise they had Christmas markets up North.

What do they sell flat caps and whippets?

Burrs is a great Caravan Club Site. You can take a 15 minute walk into Bury and catch the metro into Manchester. You will also be beside the East lancs Steam Railway. Brown Cow pub is just off the site where you can enjoy a proper pint of real ale with a 'head'.

It's Gods Country up North - and I say that as a 'blow in' from the south.

Stayed in a few sites around Manchester and I think the best for visiting is Whitecroft Farm in Strines, 300yds to a station direct to Piccadilly. Trains run everday including Sunday. And its this side of Manchester so not so far to travel.

I would agree with Burrs park, Done it many times, bus into Bury, then metro link to Manchester, plenty of wetherspoons in Manchester for tea, or as been suggested the brown cow.

have a good day

Also done Burrs.. Bus stop just round corner and don't know if you have a canine friend but quite nice walk around the site.. Little pub on site for a meal ... nice in summer to sit outside by stream ...

Not one of my FAVOURITE sites but think that was because it was new when I went and it seemed bit bare on flowers and shrubs and privacy. Perfect for access to Manchester though.

Manchester Christmas market.

Thank you for all your camp site suggestions and the North / South devide banter. Although it will be a little further for us to travel, as Ian pointed out, we have decided to stay at the Burrs.
Mainly because we prefer the Caravan club site facilities but we also want to try the Bury black pudding and the simnel cake. These are bit different to the jellied eels and pie mash and liquor that we get in our neck of woods.

Thanks again.
Doug & Mary.

Enjoy the Manchester Christmas Markets - one of the few things I miss about UK in winter :winky:

When we lived there Albert Square would be full of European stalls selling anything and everything. St Ann's Square was always a German market with lots of gingerbread and gluhwein!

Make sure you stay until evening and see the lights too :winky:

Hi we used lane end farm heywood a ccc site, it's right near junction 19. You can walk out the site and catch the bus in to the centre of manchester, think it was the 163 about ÂŁ4 return about 45 min journey. There is a petrol station with a shop just outside the site for bread, milk etc.
