I'm working on a set of prints of an old photogenic bike I saw at a show a couple of years ago. It's a great Black & White study even though its in full colour.

Don't know much about them. Can someone tell me what bike it is, or is it a self build with a Harley badge Thanks.

Here you go, Jim...

As I thought similar to an early Panhead,,,, and yes the forks have been messed about with.. rest is explained below.. :thumb:

Hi Mo..
It is either an original Panhead that has been customised, or a Panhead engine and gearbox in an aftermarket rigid frame. The vogue word here is ''bobber'', that's what the young people are telling me!

There are several styles of factory Panhead rigid frames, but I don't know enough to identify if that is an original frame. But someone here sure will.

There are a million aftermarket frames.

There appears to be no clutch cable…..a left-hand view would reveal more about the clutch/shifting…..but foot clutch was standard on civilian models until the mid 1950s…but available as an option for later Panheads.

There are no disc brakes…..which would indicate something original was the start point for what looks like a nice custom bike.

The forks are cleaned up in the usual FX/chopper style.

Dave..

Few more bits of information, Jim...:thumb:

Doubt I will find out much more...

Yep, looks like a 1955 to 57 Panhead. Straight downtubes on the frame as opposed to the earlier "bowleg" downtubes. It looks like it's genuine Harley parts but without a closer look I wouldn't put any money on it. The fuel tanks are probably aftermarket. Can't really tell from the angle of the photo.
I quite like it.

Was a newbie, now a Middie.
The forks are cleaned up in the usual FX/chopper style.

My thoughts exactly Mo. If it had been a period bike with the flat-head, then it would have had girder forks.
