Breakdown cover UK & Europe (1 Viewer)

Hi there everyone.
I have just joined this site and was wondering can anyone recommend a breakdown/recovery service to join. I already have Motor Insurance for mt 32ft Four Winds Hurricane but I need breakdown cover. I can't add this on after I took out my cover with Sureterm Direct which is a pain! Wish they had told me about it at the time, it would of been much cheaper and easier.

Some companies include breakdown/recovery, Safeguard who I am with for instance are OK with 34ft and 11 tons. However you could use the RAC/Camping & Caravan Club Arrival Scheme. This will cover you in any vehicle as well as your RV.

I recently renewed my van insurance and found that Adrian FluX was by far the cheapest for additional cover. I also took out their UK and European breakdown cover for £75. The combined cover was only £25 dearer than the renewal of the van insurance alone so I reckon I had a bargain.

Full UK and (90 day) European travel on any van or MH up to twenty years old for £59!!

I'm covered by this company, have already used them once and cannot fault the service provided. During my search for decent breakdown recovery i was amazed not only at the crazy prices, but also some companies stipulate the owner must have proof of a full service check before embarking on any journey!

That looks a bargain. Do you know if there is a weight limit or length limit. I currently pay £55 for europe wide but they will only take me to a garage.

I think its 3.5 ton but if you go through the website it will tell you. The only limit they do have is six call outs within one years membership.

I found it via Money Saving Expert: Consumer Revenge - Credit Cards, Shopping, Bank Charges, Cheap Flights and more when searching for a good deal.
I couldn't find any that beat it.

I just joined the caravan and camping club to take advantage of thier ARRIVAL scheme. On initial enquiry no one knew what "non proprietary" vehichles were, the technical department agreed with my suggestion of this being a conversion, and I was advised I would be ok.
Having now read the small print from the RAC and there ARE weight, length and width restrictions on non propretary vehicles, which mine excedes
Heres the dicotamy....is that how ya spell it ??
Do I play dumb when I break down, which I often do and hope for a sympathetic sub contractor, and risk a heafty bill if not or sell the thing and forget this nomadic lifestyle and go back in a flat ??? cos this is one head ache too many, what with not being able to afford the repairs etc. ( any one know a cheap mechanic who knows his / her way round an old coach. ?)
Ive looked arround and cant find a company that does a scheme only pay as your towed sort of thing.
I just know the fuel injection is gonna go when I next move to my next gig.
Any pointers please ??????????

I got me recovery insurance in the end through Anthony Evans ( a specialist horsebox insurer) 30 mile max recovery and UK only.
Im hoping to go to spain for the winter, does anyone know of a company that will cover a "non proprietory vehichle" for european cover ????

I am also with Sureterm Direct, just rang them to add european breakdown to my policy, no problem but i have uk breakdown with original policy. Ask for Katie in customer services she was very helpfull.
Alternatively try Rac arrival thro the ccc. Lots of companies will not entertain you because of your wt, and length,

Dont bother with SAGA you are over 3.5t/7metre long
Been there, seen it, done it, got the T shirt.
They are only agents for the AA and you will not be covered, allways point out that you are an american rv. They think because you drive a big bus you have a big wallet

is it not a Winnibago?.....
is Winnibago not WORLD famous as a motorhome builder?.....
to people with no interest in motorhomes they are all called Winnibago's.

that post is from last year when I had a bus conversion, I now have a Winnebago so the "non proprietory" thing isnt relevant. I thought Euopean breakdown cover would be a easy to get with me new RV, which it is if you want to go for up to 90 days( I want to go to spain for about 5 months) but any longer and your stuffed. I think ive tried everywhere now and they all have size and length of single trip restrictions. Many insurers include breakdown in thier vehicle insurance policy but mine (NFU) dont. I find it VERY difficult to get vehicle insurance due to working in entertainment and apparently needing bussiness use as I carry equipment to gigs in my winnebago.

thats business if you want to be part of the entertainment industry you have to pay the costs. having had my own garage in the past i,m sure geo can back me in saying a motortrade policy costs the earth n what with all the other costs i,m glad i packed in when i did. its the joy of being self employed. all self employed people have to pay the price somewhere.i,m sure you like the wheel barrow full of money that securicor pick up at the end of the week .some businesses have several barrows. all expenses are tax deductable you will of course be claiming costs that some of us cant claim for . but then we dont go to spain to work .its called ocupational hazard, if you dont like it pack your job in n get a real job.then you can go to spain on holiday .

Cheeky, my job IS a real job, it takes up more than 40 hours a week and it suits me and my state of health. I have to watch ALL my expenses as I actually earn very little compared to some, If I had £1000s of pouds worth of taxable income I probably would think f**k it if I break down in spain just pay for a low loader and claim against my tax bill but if you have a relatively small tax bill its not worth it, not to mention the cashflow, I dont have a couple of grand laying about just incase I need a tow home.

Surely thats not possible on a motorway or toll road ? If the authorities are anything like over here.....I once broke down on a busy A road, withing 10 mins the police were there and after waiting 20 mins for my recovery truck they insisted on using theirs and was told it was a frog march to the cash point situation, luckily after 40 mins thiers turned up and refused to tow due to its size and before a new heavy duty tower was in situ mine turned up. PHEW
Anyway I digress, I'de LUV to have a mechanic follow me to spain and back, who wouldnt. but think I still need that piece of mind just in case summat big and serious happened on a tricky spot.
I've already started a thread about wanting some company on my winter med trip here, but be warned im an aquired taste !!
