The vans nearly due her MOT.
Whilst getting it done I would like the cambelt changed, Not got a lot of love with garages due to previous experiences, However the garage want £252 for the cam belt kit change,

Does this sound reasonable?

Its a question with so many variables up here int North its a tad expensive darn sarf its cheap, is it a main dealer quote, or specialist quote or ordinary garage quote, are genuine parts bing used, is it just a cambelt being fitted or is it a full cambelt kit being used, are they doing as they always do or are they doing it to the book and top dead centering your camshaft with a dial gauge like they should, or will the mechanic use a tension gauge during fitting or will he twang it with his fingers, so many variables so many rogues out there, loosing the will to live :winky:I would fit my own:RollEyes:

Actually George, considering I do all my own servicing on me van it just sounds more simple to bring it over to your garage, and have you do it,.I wont entertain doing the cam belt meself as I dont have the right equipment.
The problem is, that I a few years a go took my Honda accord to have a belt change done and a service. When I returned to pick up my car the lid was still up and I asked why, The YTS mechanic stated that they had been unable to get the kit. The garage owner then arrived, shut the bonnet down and said all done. He then gave me the bill which included yes you guessed it the fitting of a new cam belt. I told him of my chat with his YTS boy, he then promptly sacked him in front of me. I refused to pay the bill which he said he would chase me for , this was 5+ years and he never di I wonder why?:whatthe:

So back to your question, its actually a local garage that can take my size van for MOTs. I asked for a cambelt kit so would like to think that he would be quoting for such. As for twanging or dead centre? I susspect it will be twang but gives me something to ask him, :thumb: as long as of course theres no twang when im driving through southern France or off to a meet somewhere.

Thankyou for your initial reply.
