Female solo motor homing (1 Viewer)

Hi. I am new to this and am seeking any advice that anyone has. I am about to take the plunge and go solo motor homing but really don't have a clue what is the best way of going forward.
I am now in my late. 50's and need to get some more travelling in, probably will start in the UK and get used to the motorhome before branching further afield.
Does anybody out there know the best way to integrate or contact other solo travellers (male and female). If there are any groups that meet up. I am thinking of doing this full time for a while and would obviously prefer to meet with like minded people .
Are there any other female lone travellers if so would be really nice to get some feed back

I used to travel solo and know that there are a couple of singles groups but never used them - Phoenix and Loners are two that come to mind.

There are quite a few solo motorhomers on here both male and female.

Motorhome Fun rallies are a great way to meet people and to be surrounded by friendly people whether on their own or with their families.

Welcome to Fun

As Janine has said, a very good way to get to know about Motorhomes and learn about fulltiming etc is to come to one of the meets.

There are often quite a few of us who are on our own, but we are not alone and I have always been made to feel most welcome by everyone.

However, to get the most out you need to make the effort to socialise. If you are prepared to say hello to people, and join in with whatever is going on you will soon feel comfortable.

Once you have got to know others you may find that there are like minded funsters who share your dreams:thumb:

Lots of solo travellers are members of Motorhome Fun. There was an idea of starting a solo group within Fun (see under Forums), but many members felt this was divisive and so it has really been abandoned.

As others have said, solo travellers are welcomed at Fun rallies, but whatever happens paying out £10 membership of this site is more than good value for money.

I travel solo too but have never felt the need to join a 'singles' group. At Funster rallies everyone just mucks in together.

Hi Windy 55. Welcome to MHF. I am a single traveller and have been to many meets where I have always felt very welcome. I am going to Ilfracombe this next week, if you pay your £10 and join MHF you will be able to join us and meet your first group of funsters.

Ilfracombe meet 15-19th August, so still time to get signed up and come along.

Hi.
I'm a 56 yr old newbie on my 3rd night of being solo in MH and loving it.
As prev suggested be prepared to be friendly first. I use a mobility scooter and I
say hi and grin at everyone I see.
I was concerned about driving alone and I bought a 4' high seated male mannequin. He wears some of my late husbands clothes I couldn't bear to part with. He has a grey wig, beard & moustache. A) makes me feel safer driving at night and B) he's a great conversation starter.
Everyone I've met have been friendly and I just view my MH as an extension of my flat at home, so if I wouldn't go off & leave doors/windows open in flat I don't with MH.

I have the best of both worlds.

sometimes i travel alone, sometimes with my wife and three dogs.

as said, the fun rallies and meets are great fun and nobody bats an eyelid if you are a lone traveller....except in my case and they take the p*** 'cos Shirls stayed at home again.

I'm looking at buying my first motorhome right now, but wonder (not wanting to steal the thread) but as a similar topic, lone female travelling with 11 year old and dog...........are there any people out there travelling with children?

Solo winter motorhome roaming

Due to my real life commitments I work in the summer but then take the winter 6 months off - which is where myself and the dog take the motorhome and roam around wasting time as gracefully as one can. Sometimes skiing in France or Italy sometimes surfing, but usually making it up as we go. I'm mid 40's not a teenager by the way.

Anyway, is there anybody out there who is equally free roaming during winter? It would be nice this winter to meet up with like minded souls as I hit the road on Tuesday and I'm heading north to start with and that's as far as my planning goes!

I get on with everyone (and so does the dog), so like minded wanderers drop me a line. Age, origin and vehicle does not matter, easy going does!

Lucky you - 6 months off! Sounds like you like the cold if you're heading North, but you could join the Morocco entourage in January, I am sure it's going to be great fun and there are some of us taking our dogs.

Im a bit like pappajohn and am on my own nearly always as hubby is very much a wimp, sorry fair weather camper and my son at 15 is at the grunting non verbal stage of development....so. I love it my grandson is being trained up as a camper at the moment but he's very young yet

I can say from my recent experience of staying at a rally with a friend who has a motorhome: everyone was open, friendly, welcoming and easy going. And I hope to join other meets, even though I don't have a motorhome. I'll just pretend I live near the meet and have left my motorhome there.

Certainly the Funsters I've had the pleasure to meet, are a sound bunch;
