Had my reminder and (form D46P)... from DVLA...

I want to keep my C1/C1E with 107 entitlement,, D1E with 101 & 119 entitlement..

Which enables me to drive up to 7.5 ton and/or 8.25 ton with trailer...

On the original form it says to apply for (D2) form to drive a Lorry/Bus or Minibus...

Also I need a "Medical examination report".. form (D4)... to be filled in by doctor & Optician...

I thought I had applied to DVLA for all these, but have just received form D2...

And NO Doctor/Optician form D4.... Where do you get these from.. ?

Has any one recently filled out the D2 form, as I have been told any mess up`s and they will only give me a license for a 3.5 ton... which isn`t any good for me. and once issued that`s it.. :whatthe:

Thanks.. in anticipation.

Hope it helps a lot of you old fogey`s.. :winky:

I want to get it right and need to, no second chances if a cock up is made..

A friend a few years ago, did all what I am doing, and DVLA made a mess up.. He didn't check his license when he got it back,,,, just stuffed it in his wallet... and it was weeks after when he looked at it that the mess up was noticed... got in touch with DVLA and they said...

You`ll have to take a retest to get back your entitlements..

So don't mess up the forms...

Make sure you take a good back up copy of your license and entitlements....

Been lots of stories about license's coming back with missing groups..

Best one was a Police motorcyclist who's came back with no motorbike entitlement !!!!

As I am a spring chicken at 54 I have a long way to go before I have to change my user name to "old tonka"..... :ROFLMAO:

Ok,from what I can remember, with the D46P and the D2 there should be a booklet.
You need to read ALL of it,as,tucked away in there are details for getting a D4. I believe there are 2 options. One is to have them send it to you (couple of weeks) or you can download it from DVLA website and print it out (about 8-10 pages )
There is a phone No in the booklet and they will answer any queries you may have.
If you have had your eyes tested in last 3 mths, then optician who did that can complete most of the optical bit with only a 5 minute test for the peripheral vision bit.
If you havn't had an eye test recently, then you may need a full test.
Medical is a private one and cost varies from surgery to surgery-mine cost £90 from an independent GP surgery, whereas my GP wanted to charge £130.

Hope that helps,
Mike

Oh,and all forms have to be done carefully and in the colour of ink they stipulate.

I have done this twice with no problems from the DVLA whatsoever.
Would suggest you apply ASAP.
Your own doctor will do your medical for about £80 (quoted to me), but had mine via :-
www.transportcafe.co.uk/drivers_medical_hgv_coach_lgv_pcv.html for £51.
Download and print your own D4 forms, and remember to sign each of the D4 pages at the bottom.
Just double check everything twice before posting. (copy everything).
Good luck.

B****y hell ! wish I'd known about them-I noticed a change this yr in the optical side of things-3 yrs ago the GP was able to do it,now it has to be an optician or a 'suitably qualified' GP.

Mike

It's just a basic eye chart test (without and with glasses) carried out by the same medical examiner.
My experience seems to indicate that they are all 'suitably qualified'?
If you failed the 'eye test, then I guess that you would need to consult a qualified optician.

As an additional note to my previous post, all my applications to the DVLA are sent Recorded Delivery.

.

For my recent renewal (last one was 3 yrs ago) both my GP and the Independent GP that I ended up going to said that they no longer did the eye test as the criteria had changed and that I needed to go to my optician.

Mike.

I had noticed that change this time on the D4, but my medical examiner just carried out the 'normal' eye test. Didn't want to 'complicate' things so I never asked him.
I will 'dig-out' my D4 copy from August, get the doctors name and try to get some clarification.
Just wondering now if he did ask when I had last changed my glasses?
Will let you know what I find out.

Since moving to Spain I have to renew my C1/C1E every year ( anyone over 50 years - YES - 50yrs old ) via a medical examination report that takes 5 minutes then a test that takes 2 minutes to judge distance! and costs 70 euros........ I considered letting it expire this year ( as I have already let HGV1 go ), but found out that if I do there is no way to get it back. The down side of changing your driving license from UK to Spanish.

Page 5 states :-

B. Information for the doctor

• Eyesight standards are explained in section D,
point 1, Eyesight.
• Only complete the Vision assessment if you are able
to fully and accurately complete ALL the questions. If
you are unable to do this you must tell the applicant
that they will need to arrange to have this part of the
assessment completed by an optician or optometrist.

Have a read of the down-load and see what you think ?
Need to ensure your doctor fully understands the eye test standards before he begins, but no need to have a seperate opticians test unless he fails you?

Well::bigsmile:

My old man will be 70 in January:Smile:

With help from Old Mo:thumb:(thanks)

We posted application off yesterday.

Alan passed the medical and eye test with flying colours:Smile:

Now we just have to wait and see if we filled in the form correctly:Smile:

I do all the driving whenever we go away, so Alan's license is just back up if anything happens to me:Smile:

I will let you know if all goes well.

Thanks Mo:thumb:

Now just got to wait and see.

The hardest part was the form filling, just hope we got it right.

Alan has just had a letter from the DVLA

We sent his application in almost 4 weeks ago.

It may take up to 12 months wait for driving license to come back from DVLA:whatthe:

Thoughts please.

We are going away soon:cry:

They are just setting themselves a target thy can probably meet in the majority of cases.

"Yes Minister, the DVLA have met their target for turning round D1 forms this year. So here is the letter for your signature approving the Chief Executive’s bonus"

"So all their customers are satisfied?"

"Sorry Minister, we haven't set a target to measure that but as every driver had their form returned within the timescale the DVLA told them it would, why would they not be satisfied?"

"That makes sense Sir Humphrey. I think we deserve a glass of sherry now, Bernard, pour us some large glasses..."

What did he do, heart replacement or joint replacement ?

I know he did scrap brain surgery after the results of "improving" Ed Balls and Ed Millband.

Oi

He helped with the form after the brain transplant:Smile:

I used to be good at filling in forms but now need help

DVLA are useless.

They said on the phone that we should hear something by Christmas, but looking at the letter, could be next Christmas
