The first time for us in Portugal apart from a brief stay in the Algarve and we are very pleasantly suprised.

The aires that we have used to-date have been immaculate, has have all the towns that we have visited, there always seems to be an army of sweeper uppers and the bins seem to get emptied daily

A few pictures, the first two being the aire at Belmonte and no idea if it is the norm but caravans are allowed according to the sign.

The second two are of the extremely religious town of Fatima where way back in time (1917 ) a shepherd girl was supposed to have had an apparition .
The devoted approach the church on there knees, and there are dozens and dozens of smart shops selling nothing but religious artefacts, so many it is hard to see how they survive.Whatever happened way back in 1917 has sure been used as a tremendous marketing tool as millions go there every year

I think poor old Todmorden could do with a little shepherd lass reporting a similar sighting

We love Portugal to, for the same reasons as said on here. We have also found many aires that are on a par with France and in some cases even better. They have a very laid back attitude, much more than other European countries.

How's the TV going Alan any more problems so far with reception?

I suppose that if apparitions appear out of a mist then Todmorden must be in the running :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

The Fatima story is interesting - 3 young shepherd children, one boy and 2 girls apparently saw an angel in 1916 on 3 separate occasions, and then saw the Virgin Mary the following year, and she gave them 3 secrets - it's probably the biggest Catholic shrine after Lourdes. Worth reading about on Wikipedia!

As for apparitions in Todmorden, they probably only happen in the rain when Alan & Lynda are at home... it didn't look too sunny in Portugal in their pics...

(BTW, how many shepherd lasses are there in Tod?)

There's a special Funster shrine at QMJ.

It is a foot rest thingy said to have once had the leg or legs of our Blessed Leader (may his name be forever praised) resting upon it.

The legend (geddit?) says that if you lay Fray Bentos Steak and Ale pies upon it as the sun dips down behind the trees of an evening you gain infinite wisdom and are instantly able to chant the names of the City back four even before they have been selected for that week's match.

If you lay tins of Heinz Cream of Mushroom (or Tomato) soup on it, it is said you can hear the mystical sound of "Blue Moon" being sung as if by the breeze gently blowing through the branches of the olive trees.
