A 2007 Bessacarr E495 is for sale at Oak Tree Motorhomes for £23000 and 10000 miles, and the layout is ideal for us. Trouble is its listed as flood damaged.

Spoke to salesman and it was in a flood when new, since been back to swift for a complete repair and is now classed as 100% perfect, and as they claimed off their insurance is now classed as cat. D.

As I'm a joiner/ kitchen fitter, I know what water does to chipboard etc,

They don't have any info on how bad the damage was or the amount of repair required, do you think its worth a look or should we stay clear??

personally I would stay clear but there are bound to be some other funsters far more experienced than us to give their opinion soon.

Have you thought of contacting swift direct?

Depends on if it was salt water or fresh water. It will always have an insurance premium on it though.

theres a whole lot to think of. not just the habitation damage that was done ( now repaired we assume ) but what about the chassis and running gear if it was submerged in any way for any length of time.

not sure that £23k is all that cheap for a 2007 considering its a cat D.

but thats only an opinion:Eeek:

seems dear to me, the rot will start inside where it cannot be seen. inside chassis sections, inside wall cavities under 10k would be worth a punt. If you do go for it then I would spray inside all box sections with old engine oil and keep your fingers crossed re the hab side.

2007 was when Tewkesbury (including the Marquis branch) suffered horrendous floods. Lots of vans were flooded, could it be one of those?

I believe many vans were written off as a result so maybe this is one that was able to be saved. It would certainly be worth getting a written report of damage found and repaired (and undamaged parts verified) before taking the plunge.

To me the one you are considering definitely appears expensive as its a category D writeoff.

Just done a quick search on motorhome trader.

There is a 2006 with 17k for £23995
a 2007 for £26,500 with 17,000 miles
and a 2005 with just 12,000 miles for £24,995

there are a few similar on ebay too.

dont forget to check preloved too

We recently put a deposit on a caravan with hail stone damage, nice caravan 2012 not used and £11000, we thought it had the advantage of maybe not being so desirable to Romany Joe and we would not have it repaired :winky: what's a few little dents between friends. :roflmto:

:winky: After all we are not a real caravanner, and after a couple of years it would be left in Spain, but the trouble is no one would insure it without the repair and a re valuation, and the only people that would insure was the company that had the claim and paid out, then it will not cover storm damage and the value was savage rate £7100.

So I would say pay a little extra for a good one. :thumb:

We have learnt a lot about tin sheds in the last couple of weeks, :whatthe: at now feel we have the right one. :thumb: Bob.

many many years! since I was a kid
thats nowhere near to being a bargain. despite being repaired, water damage is very long lasting and affects everything from chassis, through all the electrics and rot in the body panels and floor. the dealer will of paid around £10,000 at auction or less.

my advice is walk away quick and dont fall for the sales psychology. its their job to make you think its a bargain

Thanks for all your advice, we will not get involved.and look at the others suggested.

Something else that worried me about the sales man, when I mentioned that a lot of Swifts of that era had floor problems anyway, he denied having heard of the problem, very worrying........... soldier on:thumb:

Can't remember ;)
Well you have already decided (wisely) look at the resale value when you would have come to sell :Eeek: I can envisage the dealer/buyer now "well it's been a cat D so it's not worth that much":winky:as others have said 10k would be a bargain ::bigsmile: even then you would have to keep it a few yrs
