Getting a quote on Monday to convert my 8.1L chevy to Gas. I want at least 300 tank/s that I can fill from either the left, right or rear. Anyone care to prime me for what sort of price to expect. :Eeek:

read an interesting article this week and cant remember where but converting from diesel to gas may not be as cheap as it seems. The miles per gallon on diesel is between 2 to 3 times higher than the number of miles to a gallon of gas.

Will you have enough room for 300 tanks? What about the weight and the cost of filling 300 tanks? :ROFLMAO:

On my Jeep i used a good garage that fitted LPG and regret this badly as chops over to petrol on full throttle (to be sorted still)

On the RV I used Gas Power Exeter who only do LPG conversion who are superb and reasonable.

Would highly recommend this company:thumb:

Hi I've got to ask but does a gas conversion make sound economic sense?

£3500 buys a lot of fuel (not as much as last year admittedly:Sad:) also you will only get about 90% of the petrol miles per gallon because the gas' calorific value is lower than petrol!

So unless you are covering many many miles and intend to keep the RV for along time is it really worth doing? I've heard that you do get a slightly lower tax rate £15 I believe.

Regards Pat

Hi you start to break even after about 20,000 miles ::bigsmile:

Lower Tax! first I have heard of it, I sent my log book of to the DVLA to let them know I was dual fuel along with the conversion certificate, it came back the same as it went, unaltered,

Jim I was talking to the Rv dealers at Stratford after noticing most of the new Rv's had already been converted prior to sale, Must be the way to go if only to maintain resale value of your coach,
their preferred converter was Anglo American, they had all tried the rest but eturned to Anglo
if your two cylinders short of a real engine then my best guess would be £2750 all in, £3000 inc gas fill and extra fill points
just remind me again how many cylinders did Formula 1 use, I now belive there back to 8 on safety grounds:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Hi Jim, to get a good job circa £3,000.00

A few points to consider!

Don't forget to tell your insurance company that a major change has taken place, and that you are now carrying hundreds of litres of additional gas.

Payload is decimated.

The true cost of LPG is due to soar

Your rotten old Chevy engine :winky: is designed to run petrol so enjoys lubrication from the lead in the petrol (it was unleaded that was phased out meaning no extra lead was added) so you'll be bound to burn out your valves or heads prematurely!) (Geo is right it's OK with a better engineered V10:roflmto:

You'll be so disappointed with the lack lustre performance on LPG you'll never bother to use it except on long runs when you go to Spain, where of course you can't buy LPG

Other than that I would say "Go for it! :thumb:

Hi Jim,

I have said many times that the cost of converting and payback time is very prohibitive based on normal mileages.

If you take £3000 for install
£1.30 per litre for petrol
£0.55 for gas
Monthly mileage at 375 miles
Then payback is 28.7 months! Are you going to keep the RV for that long?

Couple this to the fact that the government is going to tax lpg heavily in the not too distant future which makes payback even longer!

I have a simple Excel spreadsheet to save anyone creating it. PM me with an email address and I will email it back.

Regards

Chris

Hi Jim,

At rates stated your payback is a much healthier 10.8 months!

As you can see from this photo of my RV I have plenty of lockers that could take the odd tank or two. I think I would be silly not to:ROFLMAO:

No, don't be silly those are two 4000 litre tanks that provide lpg to the house. I couldn't use that in the RV as the gas is supplied for domestic use only at 35p per litre::bigsmile:

Loads of lockers Jim? HHhhhmmn I can see one used up for the genny, one with the gas tank, one wet locker, 2 used up for the slide mechanism!!

Nope sorry Jim your best bet still seems to by my lovely shiny V10 Minnie Winnie that is sooooo economical that you won't need a LPG conversion:RollEyes:
