 RANT !!!!

I have spent two days now trying to find a reliable garage to carry out a full service, cambelt and reverse light switch replacement on my 06 Ducato 2.8JTD. I have emailed, rang and filled out numerous online forms.

No one seems to want the work, not even the Fiat main dealers - what's wrong here?

My distance search is starting to broaden, not yet wanting to return it to bloody Milan for a service - does anyone know a good, reliable garage local(ish) to Weston Super Mare - Bristol? Not got the time to get stuck in myself.

Arghhhhhh:roflmto:

Regards,

Trikeman.:winky:

started when I was 11 with my parents-forgot to stop!been real one since 1980!
Sad to say the days of the corner garage that repaired vehicles with bits and ingenuity have gone with the so-called progress. If you find a mechanic who can work miracles hang on to them. Have you tried a commercial vehicle specialist or the Ambulance or British Telecomm garages, some do 'civilian' jobs as well?
As long as it doen't involve any electronics a decent mechanic should be able to undertake the job. Note I wrote 'mechanic' not 'technician' who generally are just fitters especially in main agents.

Within 35 miles of you there is Chelston Motorhomes at Wellington, junction 26 M5 (service ctr 01823 652480) They are main dealers for Autotrail & have always given a good service. They also have an overnight stop facility for sales & service customers to use (FOC) for either night before or after your service.

Have you tried WP Counsell at Lower Weare?

Broken Link Removed

Not the cheapest but they have the old-fashioned attitude of doing the job properly.

A satisfied customer here! :thumb:

I'm pretty sure that Counsells replaced the clutch and did a service on my current motorhome before I bought it from Jones Motorhomes (who used to be just down the road). I believe they used them extensively which is some form of recommendation I guess. The clutch they fitted is still in fine fettle, by the way!

If Melksham isn't too far away, then I've found Riverside MoT to be excellent for anything mechanical. They've been looking at Bessi's oil bits (including a couple of timing belt replacements) for the past eight years and I have absolutely no complaints.

Hi All,

many thanks for the recommendations, just tried one of them. Just had a return from a highly recommended local garage come back all apologetic for not getting back due to being busy - Hoorah, ::bigsmile: our MH is booked in for a full service, cambelt kit replacement and that damned reverse light switch that's been bugging me.

Next Tuesday's the earliest, but at least it's being done before we're off.

Again, thanks.

Trikeman. :winky:

Have you tried your local council.

London Borough of Redbridge make an excellent job looking after our motorhome servicing and MOT requirements

Not Highbridge then?

On my intro when i said that my motorhome was coming from Highbridge you commented it was local to you.
Surely they could do your MH work there or is there a problem with them?, not that i will be revisiting with a motorhome dealers less than 2mls away :thumb:

Hi Biged,
no problems with them at all, their prep and mechanics are truly a good bunch though they are always flat out and the wait time can be long, especially when they are turning over the vehicles and caravans of late. It appears they have had a good sales run lately especially after the shows.
Sorted now though.::bigsmile:

not all local councils undertake repairs Gail....even those who do MOTs.

which make them perfect for your MOT as they dont do repair work there is no incentive to fail....unlike some garages/retailers offering discounted or free MOT with a full service etc.
there's no money to be made from a free MOT pass.
