But just wondering how many of you carry a tow rope ?

I always have done in the Landie and it's come in useful a few times but starting to think I should get another for the Camping Car, nothing kinetic just a plain old type.

I have carried a towrope ever since I started motorhomeing. Have never had to use it to get out myself, but have helped others many times with it when stuck on Spanish beaches with front wheel drive. Its an old load strap with loops on each end and D links.

I don't carry a rope as such, but I do have a strap with D links at each end. Never had to use it as yet.

Always carry a tow rope as it guarantees you will never need it. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

This also proves a bit my point that carrying one is a bit like a lucky rabbits foot although I suspect that it's more down to the fact that those people that carry them are less likely to get stuck in the first place, I'd be happy to be in that category.

I carry a 6 tonne tow strap. it rolls up tight so takes little room and has been used a few times for others and my own van when it sank in mud. was very pleased I was carrying it recently as the site I was on sent a JCB with a length of chain to tow us off pitch. his idea was to wrap it round a front suspension wishbone. my strap went onto the towbar and easily pulled us out without damage. £10 well spent:thumb:

We had to be towed off our own parking area at the back of the house one snowy January. Good to have a farmer as a friend!! Ever since we've carried a tow rope but never needed it!!!!!!

i carry straps, ropes, cable and a solid tow bar . designed for trucks . never know when you will need it . have towed vehicles hundreds of miles to get them out of maroc into spain .
a mate that travels with us as an identical solid tow bar . together we can make an a frame to tow the trucks using the fixings through the bumpers . also have air lines so we can connect up and keep the air brakes working . better be prepared than curse later .

Had a National Trust tractor tow me off at Dovedale car park a few years back, on the condition I had a tow rope and absolved them of any damage to the van, I did.

OK it's on the list. Will try to get a flat strop type as they roll up pretty small.

Hand winch and land anchor next:roflmto:

Doesn't everybody ?

Not the French guy that I spent 30mins digging his van out on Friday last week and no one on the aire either (me included) but keep in mind that I think British Campingcaristes (new French word I like) are probably better prepared due to the weather you guys often experience or in other words most of us here are fair weather boys......

Its on my list to get, but I need something a bit heavy duty.

The last one I had, and used for offroading, got snaffled by the lorry driver, who kindly grabbed my rusty old kerosene tank from my back garden. Along with the d shackles.

I do

Carried one for about 40 years in the car, transferred to the van now and will probably break the first time I use it.

But I would not travel without it ::bigsmile:

Same here, carry the pair I had in my old disco having seen a few Ducattos stuck on nothing worse than wet grass.

We do but, and maybe someone else has already mentioned it . . . I've been reliably informed that to use a tow rope on the road in France is an offence.

i know the thread is about towing out of mud/snow etc and not road towing, but mistakenly thought towing by rope was not legal anymore and must be by straight bar....it appears i was wrong as .GOV just regard it as dangerous.

doubt you would now Al.

i know Spanish law states a car cannot flat tow another car but in their blinkered view, pushing it with another vehicle is still towing it
