Hi,
We have had our 2001 van for a month now and covered about 1200 miles on several trips out and thoroughly enjoy the motorhome way.
Question I have got and which was not a problem on our previous van is the water level has dropped to the 'Min' for the radiator and has required topping up twice? is this normal? or has there been some evaporation due to the warm weather?? or have I got a leak on the system.
The engine is a Peugeot 2.5 TdI Diesel. Any advice much appreciated.

a sealed expansion cooling system should not need topping up under normal circumstances . you are more than likely suffering water loss due to either coolant leaking externaly ie hose,water-pump , radiator etc or more seriously coolant being burnt off internally, due to a weak headgasket . expansion bottle caps are sometimes prone to fail and this can depressurise the system thus letting the coolant boil off . if a visual check of the system cant spot any traces of anti freeze, then your best option is a pressure test at your local garage . regards garry

Does it ever go below the min mark??

Sometimes they find there own level, if it does not loose any when on min then it is ok.

just remembered, i think that engine has a metal coolant pipe that runs along the back of the engine block and it can corrode through near its mountings ! people some times miss it because the coolant doesnt drip onto the ground it gets collected in the castings of the engine block and then burnt off when the engine is running . garry

many many years! since I was a kid
check the underside of your oil filler cap. if theres a sign of white gummy residue, your headgasket is likely starting to leak. topping up the level twice over a few months is a fairly slow leak. look at all the joints and check for staining. they may not appear wet as they may just leak under pressure with the engine running

Next job will be to do just that.
Thanks for the advice

you have a leak.

have the system pressure tested and the leak fixed before it gets worse and possibly blow the cylinder head gasket.

Ouch, will get her pressure tested for sure. Only had the van for a month from a dealer so think warranty ?
