Just had my cambelt replaced on my 1997 Ducato. What a job! I can’t believe how difficult access is for major work on these engines. Everything is hard to get at. It puts up labour costs tremendously. Manufacturers just don’t give consideration to maintenance and repair, when they design these vehicles. It must be hell for commercial fleet owners. Don’t get me wrong, I think these are well made and generally very reliable vehicles, but what a palaver. Anyway it’s done now, so peace of mind for a good few years. Just looking forward to receiving the bill.

depends how they go about replacing the belt.

not difficult if the o/s wheel is removed as a lot of the work is done through the wheel arch....just threading the belt over the pulley's from the top.

took me around an hour and a half on my drive with basic hand tools.

I can imagine its more difficult on an A class with a 'bonnet' the size of a biscuit tin lid though....need to be fed on the pulleys by feel i reckon..

I knew there had to be a reason why I didn't buy an A class; other than the shortage of doors.

Just had my cambelt replaced

For over 100 years chains have given just about faultless service.

Then some idiot comes along and sees belts.

It's interesting to note that Ducati have just dropped their belts on their newest most expensive bike and gone back to good old chains. The belts, which I think are changed something like annually, have cost Ducati owners a fortune because some are engine out jobbies. Ridiculous.
