Ok.. So I have seen a "used" 2007 Carthago on the web priced at £64,000...

Out of interest I sent an email to see "ball park" how much for my van..

Autotrail Apache 700, 2012 spec with euro 5 engine.
Registered Jan 2012 and has 13,000 miles..

Come on people have a guess how much they want to give me for my van..
As a guide I think new list price is currently around £53k...

No idea about your van but I will have a stab at £38K as trade in and about £45K for a sale.

Trade in.

After you've knocked off the 20% vat and allowed for what looks like an average mileage for a 2 year old van, I'd say about 40% less than you paid for it. Assuming you paid close to the current list price when you bought it, then 53k less 20% is 42.4k. Less 10% for year one depreciation takes it down to around 38k and 10% for year two down to about 35k. But take heart; it might have been a 53k BMW or Jag, and that really would make you laugh, or weep!

many many years! since I was a kid
knowing the way that some dealers (stealers) operate, I would guess a figure just under £20k. they have to scratch a meagre living you know :ROFLMAO:

Ok...

I wont let this run to much......
Some sensible figures and some near accurate..... !!!

As a private buyer I would have worked on the vat off plus x amount for each year.. Yes dealers have to make their margins..

£28,000.....:Eeek:

Remember this is a part ex on another van, I would have been dissapointed as a quick cash sale...
Am I shocked no.....

Ref the car loosing vast amounts, yes been there with a Bmw..

Never mind,. I love my van and looking forward to many more trips..
A Carthago can wait.. Didn't want one anyway.. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Well I know you have given the price but as soon as I read your post 28 k ish sprung into my mind (poss 28.5k)::bigsmile: along with PPJohns thoughts:Smile: I based this figure on the fact that last yr I managed to get a 54k Rimor 18 mths old for a mate for 31k which at the time I still think was a couple of k too much :winky: but he wanted it ::bigsmile:

That is a shocking amount!

I know vans depreciate a lot in their first few years, but it shouldn't be that much! The 'best age' to combat depreciation is between 5-7 years, much depends of course on the layout/size of the van. A good layout will demand far higher price than an 'average' layout.

One of my customers bought on 16k 7 years ago, 2000 Elddis. Just traded in for 14k - 2k loss in 7 years because the van 'Was a good layout and held their value' - dealer didn't even want to view before hand! I dare say it will be up for similar money than she first bought it for.

Expect a hit on newer vehicles, or keep them longer and get use from them - don't let dealers take the mick - they want the sale, they pay a fair price or do wht Tonka has done and keep hold of it a little longer and enjoy. Bonus is, not being in a rush to sell - he can wait!

Tonka.....week before Christmas...trust me! Get the boss on the phone and politely push - you will get the deal you want....but do it the week before christmas!:thumb:

It was more just for interest than anything BUT it did surprise me.. I expected low £30k..

No plans to change really and I am now far to wise to deal at the wrong time. This current van was bought Christmas week with a good discount secured plus I kept my old van and sold private in the spring for a lot more money... :thumb:

28K trade in against 64K ! ...... was that just their opening offer or did you squeeze them?

I would expect a much better deal after a "little"persuasion.

I know what you mean we have just done a trade in and taking into account the 20%vat loss and three years depreciation we have lost a lot but in our opinion have gone to a better and older van, from a swift to a Autosleeper, both coach builds but boy what a difference in quality.
This Autosleeper is going to last a lot longer than the swift, things already falling off and breaking where as the Autosleeper is three years older and shows no sign of wear and it's done more miles than we have done.

£10,000 less £43k, I would think. I was heartbroken at the trade in price we got for our Bessacar e460 and shocked at what they marked it up for.

13k miles that's cost you about £1.50 per mile on top of the fuel ect :Eeek:
Dealers love owners that change .

Similar thing happened here--
Guy bought a new aircraft for 52k, kept it for 18 months flew 30 hours in it and sold it for 28k ,worked it out with all costs, £900 per hour to fly it :Eeek:

I have to admit, yes we are getting the use out of this van and also my last van was the same, had that for 5 year and did lots of trips.
This year I have slept more nights in the van than at home.:thumb:
Off again next week to Spain for a month, so more use for my money..

mh trade in value fancy a laugh

The only way to stop this theft by unscrupulous so called dealers on both sales and poor but expensive servicing is to NAME and SHAME.
The forums are big enough to do this, but we are all too polite to do it.
Enough is enough--lets do it

I would be surprised if any dealer's would be offering much more than 5/10% either side of the offer

I think the dealers are all the same. A few years ago we called around dozens to give a price for ours at the time. The lowest was £10k and the highest £12. We sold privately for £16. They would have retailed the van at £20k. Obviously part ex a bit different as they'll usually give you some of the margin they have in the new van as value on the part ex.
As has been said though they are running a business and there is always a huge mark up on everything you buy.......
