Are there any issues that need considering before you buy and have one fitted?

Overhang?

Manufacturer?

Weight to be towed?

Etc Etc..

Thoughts, pointers would be appreciated.

many many years! since I was a kid
pre 2012 registration, you can have a towbar made up to fit your van without worrying about type approval. after 2012 is a different matter

as for other factors, you will need to ensure the towbar and any chassis extensions are substantial enough to tow the maximum allowed by your maximum towing weight. this is the maximum train weight, less the mass in running order, unless your manufacturer quotes a lower figure.

overhang is an awkward one as no 2 vans are the same, and the problem normally only becomes apparent when loading on a ferry etc. very dependant on the overhang from the rear wheels back.

dont forget that the bigger the towbar, for example with bumper bar like pws make, the more load capacity you lose and more weight on rear axle

I have just taken mine off my Autocruise Starfire. It needs a paint job to spruce it up - but if you want it - come and get it!
