Well if its good enough to offer a British citizen a tent to live in it's good enough to house immigrants, one or two fields set aside with tents sand mud huts should suffice, saves our housing stock and any further building on green belt land

That is a valid point......we offer shelter to asylum seekers in the form of Mansion sized housing and benefits (I know not all get that) - yet our own OAP's are living on the streets, and the immigrants that do work (and do a great job) pay taxes etc, are treated like slaves with poor living conditions and long hours.

Maybe they should treat everyone equally if they wish to have this multi-cultural dream. Either all in flats, or tents - whichever. The asylum seekers will be happy enough, as at least they have no threat of attack, the homeless will be happy as they too will be safe from drunks and street gangs. Could be onto something there.

Hmmm. Interesting that the Huffington Post references the original story in the Isle of Wight County Press but then goes on to cherry-pick the elements which reflect its political stance.

Reading the original article it turns out that the woman concerned was living in a winter-let apartment and knew very well - and well in advance - that she would have to find alternative accommodation when the let came to an end.

It would seem (as so often) that there is a lot more to this story than has been published.

Our leaders

Why is everyone so surprised, were British we have no rights we just pay for it all and keep it shut or moan a bit, then your branded right wing racist troublemaker, a woman in a tent small potatoes, we have no money the bankers have it all nicely stashed away somewhere, Gordon Brown sold of lots of gold at knock down prices, no doubt to Mr matey just before the price went up, we lost a bundle in Iceland ( many councils had funds invested there just what are councils doing investing our money abroad?) nothing has been paid back, spent the billions saving the banks and funding pay rises for them, billions for over sea’s aid all unaccounted money. Billions spent on the NHS computer system ‘that did not work.

The ships steward John Prescott had all new super duper fire control centre’s built and gave the landlords, ( no doubt a mate) a thirty year contract now they can not make them work so we have to pay them for 30 years and can not get out of it.

And the list goes on, but as has been said it’s only our money, these people do not care what we say until voting time then they give you a little sweetener to get your vote, or sing all the right songs to keep us happy, but even that is changing now they form a society of idiot’s and call it a coalition and do what they want to anyway.

They defiantly have lessons on how to communicate if you watch there hand movements they never point, they use the thumb and first finger, thumb on top and directing the whole hand, or the thumb and first finger pressed together at the tip when explaining how or why they need to do something, or waste some more money, you observe it next time you see one lying.

And tell their readers what they want to hear - and leave out what they don't...........and if the truth is in there...........well who cares?

That does put a different slant to it Graham, in my mind it makes it worse they are suggesting she go on the streets rather than remain on them. Not everyone can come up with the deposits required for accommodation these days somewhere in amongst the rubbish written is a woman in need for one reason or another of housing, on the other hand we have MP's voting themselves a 16% pay rise, now that is down right immoral.

I must have missed that vote Roger, all I've seen is that IPSA is expected to recommend a rise later this month. Do you have a link?

Having said that we are comparing apples and oranges aren't we? There are all sorts of anomalies in the world which can be identified if we look for them.

I agree that not everyone can come up with the deposits required for accommodation but, as the IWCP article says (and which the Huffington Post chose to ignore) the Isle of Wight Council spokesman had found Mrs Martin temporary accommodation that did not require a deposit.

As a former hotelier and candidate for election to the council it is reasonable to expect that Mrs Martin would have sufficient knowledge of the nature of winter lets to know that she should make adequate preparations for the end of the tenancy. As I said earlier, it would seem that there is a lot more to this story than has been published.

Newspapers - Politicians, They both only tell you what they think you want to hear. Can anyone remember a truthful politician? Can anyone remember a newspaper that didn't bend or omit the truth for their demographic?

quite easy if you give up a council house to fulltime dont expect a another . if you sell the house you have dont expect a council house .
i would say its about time all council houses were sold and we could bring back the work houses . seems like a good idea .
