As the thread says "chips", I'm no longer the chipman, cooking chips the bl##dy chip fryer nearly caught fire and now kaput, until we get a new fryer, thats it "no chips":cry:

Glad to know that no serious injuries or damage, was suffered at all Ray. :thumb:

Myself, and many of my former colleagues ditched our deep fat fryers years ago (safer than a chip pan though). I know there's nothing to beat properly fried chips, but the range of oven chips has vastly improved over the years, from the likes of McCains and Aunt Bessie's.
So much safer, and cleaner too.

Another major downside for me with regards the thermostatically controlled deep fat fryer.......................was that it was always me that had to clean the bl##dy thing.

Cheers for now,

Jock.

I will have to put wheels on it or bung it on a trailer and tow it everywhere, and then Harry Ramsden would have real competition, but decent chips at every meet, :ROFLMAO::thumb:

I cant be doing with those new fangled deep fat fryer things. I use a good old chip pan with solid lard and cook outside on my Roastmaster. No smells and no spillages.

Harry Ramsden have gone to pot since the original shop was sold and
the recipe farmed out to commerce.
