Since 2009 with motorhomes several caravans then tents before that.
I always thought that each human year was equivalent 7 years to a dog. Seems its not. They age the most in the 1st 2 years of their life.
Now you can work out how old your dog is , with the aid of a calculator.
Our Border Terriers , we have now found out , are infact
Ruby 15 human years= 81.16
Buster 4 human years = 33.64
Well you learn something everyday:ROFLMAO:

Oh dear , so sorry about that . They really do become part of the family.
We nearly lost Ruby 4 weeks ago through her choking on some cheese. My finger is still recovering.

Our Lab turns out to be 1.6 years old. No wonder we can't get him to do his business outside yet. (But he does do 'sit' 'stay' and 'come' quite reliably now).

In a week's time he's allowed out for his first walk.

Ahhh
Try and get him used to all sorts of noises too.
Before he can go out to walk , carry him , next to main roads etc so he can hear wagons , fire engines , police cars etc.
The puppy class , through the vets , we took Buster to suggested this to us. That way if you acclimatise them to loud noises etc they are not scared when they are allowed out , on the floor. :thumb:

He has no trouble with noises at all. He's been taken along to groups of children and in the car on multiple occasions. Completely unfazed by any of it, but prefers to move a metre when the washing machine is on spin. The breeder had cats and children and made a point of running the vacuum cleaner close to them.

We would be if we could persuade him that outside is good for toileting. We praise any outside action, but that doesn't seem to reduce the number of inside accidents. Perhaps we should ignore the books and tell him off?

You mention "he" and our experience is that boys are slower to get it vs girls (nothing changes)

We always used newspaper and moved it closer and closer to the back door. Also reading the Pre-wee signs and knowing the habits are really important.

Good luck

Take some of his poo and put it in the garden. Go to the garden with him regularly. Try to make a 'toilet area' he can associate with, reward him when he goes outside. Having his own poo in the garden, should give him a clue. Once he gets the idea, take him out at set regular intervals and take him to the toilet area. Don't forget to give him lots of fuss when he gets it right.:thumb:

No point telling him off - he won't have the slightest idea why you are flapping your arms about and jumping up and down. You need to show him where to go.

This is Gremmie a nearly 14 year old collie cross. You can see where she gets her name fro with those ears! We got her from a rescue centre as a very skinny one year old, we both said she looked like the Gremlins so that was her name. The little one is Izzy a 3 year old Border, as you say fantastic little dogs.

Ours is about 79 in doggie years
(explains why his main hobby is sleeping, eating and occasional play fights)

A Collie that belonged to a campsite owner I know was very old and it showed with dodgy legs and blind/deafness. She passed away only due to be run over by a delivery lorry - when the owner checked her papers - she was 26! So that would make her roughly 163!:Eeek: (top of my head!)

put a stick or object in the garden
and wee on it regularly
gives him a clue

( or we in a pot and water the garden stick)
