Hello wild campers.
We have just aquired an old VW T25 and are heading north of the border for some off grid adventure, mountain biking and kayaking (wine sipping and view admiring only needs saying once).
Hoping to wild camp as much of the way from Barnsley- Eyemouth- edinburgh- Leuchars/ St Andrews- Huntley- Forres- Ullapool- dunoon (via Applecross) and finally back to Leuchars via the Trossachs.
Any hints for palaces to lay our weary heads, or places to haul the (characterfully) non-powered steering away from would be greatly appreciated.
We have plenty of ' skin so soft' for the midgees! for them either to feast on or flee.
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a nice trip you have got planned, and a lot of miles, how long are you planning for ?,

Midges not made an appearance yet . . .too bloody cold for them up here to date .. . .but give it a day or two of warm sunshine ( most unlikely at the moment up here, we had 1 warm day Tuesday this week, literally the first this year ) and they will be here with their teeth bared waiting to taste that lovely human blood, did you know its only the female that bites . . .surprise surprise eh

Hi Rich and Mel

Your trip sounds great, if your staying the night in Edinburgh head for the caravan club site at Silverknowes you can park up at the end of the rd about a mile from campsite I have also stayed the night in car park at Silverknowes golf course with their permission so I'm sure if you pop in and ask then buy a couple of pints it will be fine.

If heading for St Andrews once in the town head for the old course club house this is right next to the beach, just drive past the club house and you will see loads of nice quiet wee spots and again we have used them on several occasions.

Not wild camped in the Dundee area so can't help.
If your anywhere near glencoe ski resort you can spend the night in their car park either for free or £10 if you want a pitch with hook up, their pub/cafe is open all day.

It's been a few years since we done Dunoon so might have changed if you drive through the town with the sea on your left and keep going you will come across a yacht club not far from there we once spent the night with no problems.

Have a great trip and enjoy my beautiful country.

Were going to do about 3 weeks wild, with the odd site for empty/ fill and hot showers etc, before settling down for summer near Leuchars, and wild camping every weekend......... Happy days.......

........Thanks for all of your well wishes and tips. We will be on the road tomorrow, can't wait- just have to work out how to squeeze 6.5 ft long cross country ski's in along with inflatable kayak, accoutriments, clothes, food, water, wellies, waterproofs, entertainment etc- maybe we should get a camper each!.......
