Leisure batteries (1 Viewer)

A fiend of ours recently bought some new leisure batteries and has recommended them to us.

Therefore, I'm thinking of replacing our leisure batteries with six of these but I'm not sure we'll manage a weekend off hook-up

if you would like some slightly smaller ones i just acquired 26 x 2volt 100ah deep cycle emergency lighting backup batteries....dont know what to do with them now i have them. oh:

I've got those in my van....they work great. I've installed them in the overhead cab...they are charged by two 10000000 w solars that I nicked off the space station when I was up there last...

everyone knows as there is no atmosphere or ozone layer in space a 50w solar panel is so efficient it will charge all the space stations 500,000,000ah batteries in around 10 minutes.

If you were running an eco house, with a bank of these attached to solar panels - then I could understand. For use in a motorhome or for leisure purposes they are completely ott and unsuitable. The size and weight alone would be impractical.

What you are suggesting, is the 'hope' of lasting a weekend off hook up with 6 of these...23,000ah....most of us survive 3-6 days with 110/220ah leisures.

Buy yourself one or two 110ah good quality leisure or traction batteries and relax - they will do just fine! To keep the drain down, keep to 12v products and try to avoid long term use of inverters. A solar panel or wind turbine will keep it topped up if you wish. For a quarter of the price of one of those batteries, you can have a turbine strong enough to run your motorhome off hook-up full time with ease using on one battery!

When I got my camper I thought a big battery bank were what was needed, that was a mistake.
I sold a 2007 Abbey twin axle Caravan when I got a MoHo, it had a 60watt panel on the roof and I almost never put it on mains, even in the winter in storage with the draw of a full alarm and tracker it stayed full, we also had 2 TV's, one at the front and one over the bed that were used a lot.
I am going to go back to Optima Batteries, I had one on the caravan and I will put 2 in my MoHo, the model was " yellow top YTS 5.5" they are spiral cells and that fastest charging battery you can buy.
We had one before so I will put 2 in the MoHo, expensive yes at Just over £200 each worth it yes every penny when I just had one of them

They are wet ones. They are AGM not Gel. I wouldn't touch Gel with a barge pole but my AGMs are fantastic. 500AH of them. Same batteries since 2007...

Well, there's the Xbox 360, the original Xbox, the Wii, the PLaystations, the PC, the washing machine and spindrier, the compressor and air-tools, the arc welding set, the three laptops and my wife's never off her bloody iPhone.

It's a bugger on the batteries.
