At the Peterborough Show I was struggling with the leisure battery. I know the Eberspacher Diesel heater takes quite a bit out of the battery, particularly on start up, but after just half an hour in the evening and then again in the morning it was taking most of the day to bring the battery backup with my solar pane, which is not normaly the case. So after the event I charged the battery fully using the EHU and then tried it out loading it to around 4 amps with lights and a radio. The result from my Nasa battery monitor was:-
Time - Volts - Current (amps) - % left
08.00 - 12.7 - 4
09.00 - 12.3 - 4.1 - 70%
10.00 - 12.2 - 4.1 - 65%
11.00 - 12.1 - 4.1 - 60%
12.00 - 12.0 - 4.1 - 55%
13.00 - 9.6 - Alarms

I thought it was looking good at 12.00 but obviously that was not the case. Result was a trip to Roadpro in Daventry to have a Banner battery fitted. The guys were most helpful in finding which was the biggest one that would fit in the allocated space.:thumb:

Sorry forgot to state that. It was the original. I first saw the van and agreed to purchase it in May 08, so at least 5 years. I guess it had done reasonably well.

Hi Graham

I have an idea it was a newmax but I did not look that closely and left it with them.

I wonder if there is a code on the battery which would tell you the age.

I just bought two Banner's from Broken Link Removed (Long term Funster) First time I've had them, but I've heard good things about them. Good price too. :thumb:

[HI]I wonder if there is a code on the battery which would tell you the age.[/HI]

I looked for one last year - even had a thread running on it - but never found such a code.

It's still doing a great job at the moment but I may well go for an Elecsol when replacement time comes. Looking round the web in an idle moment a couple of days ago I saw a 100 Ah Elecsol for about a tenner less than the 80 Ah Banner one we have now.
