Where do you get your service done ? at your MH supplier or at the engine/chassis supplier (Fiat) dealer ?

Both my Fiat dealer and my MH dealer are close by but not sure where to go. It's a 2011 Ducato Multijet 2.3/130PS engine.

Also anyone know the service schedule on this engine ?

Shop around and go to whoever will do the job the cheapest to the correct level/who you trust. We usually use a local base vehicle manufacturer's workshop as they are much cheaper than a dealer, however, we've also used a local independent garage who we trust too.

You also need to think about your habitation check and where that will be done, check that wherever you want to use is 'authorised' by the motorhome manufacturer to carry out the service work and any warranty work that may be needed too - some claim they are authorised by them but in reality it isn't always true!

Not sure if it applies to your MH (2011) You would need to service it by dealer to maintain warranty Once the MH is out of warranty, then service by independent garage usually better service and value for money

Chassis and Engine done at local Iveco dealer.
MH part at MH dealer.
Both until warranty expires, then shopping around for best deal.

many many years! since I was a kid
warranty items or recall notices on chassis I take the van to the fiat commercial dealer. they specialise in the nuts & bolts so get it right unlike dealers. habitation and living area parts I go to an independant authorised by the manufacturer.

anything else I use a local independant garage that the local dealers use for anything difficult. labour £50 per hour plus vat and parts at cost, so with years of experience and fast work turn around they get my work.

I could go cheaper but that is false economy. or I could go to a commercial specialist or the fiat garage above for much more money. from experience getting the cheapest budget price often means people cut corners with cheap parts or have no experience. Paying more for experience and quality actually seems to save money and hassle long term. but dont pay more than you need to.

I prefer to have the job done right first time and know the van shouldnt let me down when touring.

to me a recomendation like you often see on this forum is worth noting. otherwise get a few quotes and take a look at the work the garage is doing,

Our service is done by the London Borough of Redbridge for the cab.

They are excellent.

Some local councils have mot stations and do work as well.

We wouldnt go anywhere else. They are thorough, dont charge the earth and work on large vehicles all day

Torsion Bars!

To anyone who's Motorhome has an Alko chassis with torsion bars, make sure your garage is aware of the need and correct way to have them greased!

We found out to our cost, that our second hand 1998 Swift Kontiki Fiat Ducato's torsion bars hadn't seen any grease in a long time!

Repairs Yes:thumb:

Servicing NO! And you won't lose your warranty either:thumb:

Office of Fair Trading posted a while ago, I passed it on under "They kept that quiet" as a thread, wouldn't have a clue how to find it tho it's here( M/H Fun) somewhere!

I've forgotten the chapter and verse but OFT found that the Motor Vehicle dealer charged, from memory, 40% more than an Independant so decreed you won't lose your warranty for getting your servicing done elsewhere.

I can recommend "Bridge St Motors" in St Austell if ever you are stuck with a problem in the Clay Country area of Cornwall:thumb:

Our independant garage that has done our cars etc for years and we trust. They can do servicing under warranty, all that is necessary is that they use OEM parts.
MH workshop for MH related bits, unless easy DIY.

Servicing.

I prefer a Fiat main agent for the chassis but always use the Auto-Trail service centre for the annual habitation check even though its over on the east coast. Those service guys are spot on and nothing is overlooked.
