Your best bet is a prepaid MiFi which will support up to five devices on WiFi.

Something like this from Three for £50 including 1 month of data and other months for £10 a time. They have other deals for a year etc.

Cheers

1st thing to check is what does your phone contract (if u have1) allow for data (internet) then get a unlocked dongle like this 1 which i have
Link Removed
you can insert your phone sim and get on the net without another sim which you will have to buy i have had mine working with tesco and t mobile you will need a apn number which you can get from the net and its also wifi so allows others to connect

I think 3 are doing the best deals atm - £18.99 for 15gb - but they want you on a 2 year deal :Eeek:

Broken Link Removed

Most are offering 3gb per month options...

Giffgaff are offering a sim only option @ £12 pm with unlimited data....BUT

giff gaff offer

They have a caveat - that "tethering" is considered unfair use... anyone using or had any issues with this?

"3.10. Your use of the Services must be for your private, personal and non-commercial purposes. You may not use your SIM Card:

a) in or connected to any other device including modems, dongles and tablet devices, or any other way to connect to a PC (unless you are on a gigabag or a goodybag plan with a limited mobile internet allowance). This includes using your phone as a WiFi hotspot in order to connect multiple devices, and any other form of tethering activity."

I use a 3 dongle when in UK . Works everywhere  paid £20 for the dongle and that included £10 of data use which was enough for my use in a month. On our return could not top up as was over six months since last use but no Problem sold me another sim card fr £ 15 and included another £10 of data so enough for my visit ::bigsmile:

2 parts to this The hardware and the connection.
Hardware wise. If it is for a single device get a decent dongle. If you have laptops, phone and tablet then an unlocked MiFi is best.

On the connection front....
3 have been the best for me no matter where I am. "Almost" guaranteed a decent connection.
GiffGaff have the cheapest unlimited data offer but they do say it must only be used in a phone.. ie no tethering or putting it in data only devices.
Also Giffgaff are running on the O2 network which doesn't have a good reputation for coverage. Additionally GiffGaff have had quite a few outages.

My setup is.. I have a dongle with an external antenna port for those times I am at the fringes of reception. I use my Mifi when I am in a good signal area and want to use all my devices. I stick with 3 because they are the best based on personal experience.

12gb of data or 12 months use....at £57 this would cost you £90 if bought from them direct

£60 for unlocked dongle on fleabay is the same as the locked one direct from three!

No brainer!

Just a thought!

1/ Can you get a power lead for it to plug into the van?

2/ Can I plug my wifi aerial into it?

Can't plug wifi aerial into mine, why would you? Works from sim or am I missing
something?

The phone lead won't stretch that far :winky:

R u serious or joking. I can use a Samsung galaxy anywhere in Europe to connect my laptop in the included data, does cost a bit to connect but no more than having a new contract for a dongle

Dongle plug into USB on PC with DATA sim not for voice gives web
access to that PC only.

Mifi (read wifi) with data sim (looks like small mobile) once up and running gives wifi for up to 5 PC's or fones etc .
Hope this helps :winky:

I use a 3 mifi
Bought a pay as you go sim 3 gig of fle bay for 12 quid I used it a Newark plus a bit in hotels and at Peterborough
No problem so far plus Elaine drove home from Peterborough while I played around on ipad on net and never dropped connection even face time to granddaughter while moving
Don't by a sim from 3 direct as 3 gig will cost you 20 quid
Does any body know how to find out how much data you have left?

For the laptops we use a T-Mobile dongle. (1 each).
£2 for 1 day, £7 for 7days, £10 for any 7 days out of 30 or £15 for 30 days.
1gb, but no cut-off so for emails and general browsing - unlimited.
Works perfectly anywhere there's a mobile signal.
Been using them for 4 years now, no problems at all. And no contract.

No one seems to know what I am on about, google "tethering" with this you can connect through more or less any phone that is capable of going on the net. iPhones or android especially , no need for a separate dongle
