I just bought a 6Kg bottle of propane.

The cost? £19.99 via the shop at Tallington Lakes (near Stamford)

This thread can do two things...

Give praise to those charging a reasonable amount

and

Name and shame the more expensive re-sellers.

£19.99 is the correct price..

As far as I know Calor control retail prices, you can check on their website if you suspect a retailer is pulling a fast one

Oh I just discovered that the Gaslight business (and in fact all BP bottled gas) has been sold to the Scottish company MacGas.

I use the 5Kg bottle for my barbecue so I better go and get a refill from Homebase before they change suppliers AGAIN

What gets me is the fact that having been 'persuaded' that Calor were changing their bottles to 'Calor Lite' ones I now have to pay just under £26 to refill with the same amount of gas - Why?

I was paying £22 plus for 6Kg Calor Lite, fed up with this I installed Gaslow, now £7.40 to fill up.
What further pi**ed me off with calor is you only get a percentage of your deposit back depending how long you have rented one, so I only got back 40% of my £29. How the hell does that work ? I could understand if I had kept the same bottle (wear and tare) but I probably had 12 different bottles in that period. Another rip off. Goodbye:thumbdown: Calor

Not trying to defend Calor's prices.. but I would think Calor Lite bottles will cost more to manufacture, they will also have a shorter 'round trip' user life compared to steel bottles.. and will also get damaged more often.. so will need to be replaced more frequently.

Steel bottles can take a lot of abuse.. I've witnessed them thrown from the top of a pit head winding gear to the ground with no apparent damage .. not good practice I hasten to add..

i get a 13kg calor for £25.49 i gave up with the 6 kg ones they are a royal rip off i think its mainly down to a back hander from caravan manufacturers as they seem to be the only size that fits.

also 90% of caravans will only use 6kg of gas every 12 months.

I took poor Mrs Bungy out for gas at Chester. I was amazed that she had to pay £36 for a 13kg bottle. I thought it steep so made her go back and question the guy. He said it was correct. What a rip off.

I paid £19 for a calor lite and only 22for a 13kg.

I'm so glad I have a gaslow system, it's getting cheaper by the day.:thumb:

In my experience the cheapest place to swap gas cylinders is a builders merchant.

But with Gaslow I don't have to worry now. :Tongue1:

If you open an account with calor gas you can still pay on collection and get a discount of about £3 on retail price.
6KG cost just over £16 last week

Blimey! I thought gas was expensive over here.
We get our Propane from SuperU supermarkets and pay around 25€ about £20 for 13kg and only 5€ for the contract/deposit

Diesel at the supermarkets is cheaper as well, 1.33€ per litre yesterday

That's a good deal and there's a depot in Peterborough. Problem is I have two Calor bottles and I'm unlikely to get (much) of the deposit back

We have two 13kg Calor bottles on our van. We used to have a 13kg and a 6kg.

I exchange them at our local merchant TGS in South Shields.
The 6kg bottles are £17.95 but their 13kg bottles are £19.95.

That about £1.50 a litre on the 6kg bottle,:Eeek: but only £0.77 a litre on the 13kg bottle,:thumb: not a big difference from refillable price.

Hence the reason we do not use 6kg bottles.
