Template for top fixing points knocked up from aluminium angle

Marked a pencil line across from side to side in line with the bottom of the curved panel.
Measured the centre and used the template to mark the holes for drilling.

Hung the rack on the top hangers and then centred the bottom brackets to mark for drilling.

Top tip!
To make sure the drilled holes are at 90 degrees to the wall use a block of wood with a 6mm hole made using a pillar drill.
Once you've drilled into the skin of the van STOP and put your drill bit through the wood into the hole and hold the wood tight to the van then proceed to drill right through.
All 8 of my fixings aligned perfectly with the internal plates.

Nice job.

Just got to find the balls to drill my Rapido.

Did you put any spacers in the bodywork to stop it crushing.?

Great photos

Thanks

No it won't crush, you can feel when it is tight enough.

You could always use the rapido drill and tap fixing points but the consequence is that the rack will be 300mm off centre

I think yours looks beter in the centre.

I was looking at the Thule Omni-Bike Lift.

But the Fiamma one looks ok .

Like I say just got to dare drill it .

What toilet do you have in your Rapido?

We have the dommetic CT3000 and the flush has very little power.
Just had a call from the dealer if we need more power we have to fit a beter pump.
And its not warranty.

I will be ringing Rapido in the morning.

Bog with a sog is a Thetford C200

Omnistor bike rack has a lower payload.
I think Omnistor make better awnings but the Fiamma is a clear winner on bike lifts

Drilling is EASY, getting the holes in the right place is the hard bit

Making a template for the upper fixings is the key to making it easy as the width is critical. Once the rack is hung on those it is relatively easy to mark the bottom ones through the brackets once centered.

Sorry but you're wrong Peter.
I've watched this for over 6 months now and they don't have them in stock (available) is what they quote. Delivery takes 10 days from placing order. They just don't make as much profit.

It's not a sale price either it's a "our price"

Your right  I saw the red sale link!

We can do them at that price but in our experience this rack causes a lot of problems with buyers unless they are well clued up like you, had a Sundance (used) go out yesterday with one already fitted and the buyer was not happy with it but that is what it came with.

This is an excellent install and exactly what I've been looking for. My van has a rear toilet so the existing Omni rack is mounted very high and me being short = steps, over reaching and huffing n puffing, honestly it's the most stressful part of the whole vacation prep. Last Thursday was the last straw and I simply ditched the bikes and put the scooters in the garage as it was easier. Getting the cover on at that height is nearly impossible....

Going to read through this thread again and check the pics as I need to get a good understanding about the fixings and need to know if I can use the existing drill holes that are already there. The height is fine as my Omni is 100cm and the Fiamma lift covers 68 - 106cm from memory, need to check the width and then the hole centers on the plates.

Looked today at Omni fixings but there is nothing on the inside of the van, it looks like they are drilled into the top rail where I assume it has a fixing batten behind it (need to check with manufacturer) and the bottom looks like it is purely Sika fix.......

And has a 3 bike limit. That's why I'll go for the Fiamma if I can find a solution for the fixings.

Would there be any chance that you could measure the holes centres on the upper and lower brackets ?

That's great, the brackets on the existing Thule is also 50mm.

Had a good look at it today and it seems pretty OK to swap the rack out for the Lift 77. Some adaptation required on the bottom brackets but already found that the holes on the inside of the van for this.

Just got to decide when to order one from now...

This picture illustrates Rapido design stupidity and why I ignored the mounts that dealers will use.

Found an appropriate picture of mine as it should be. No signal board as not required for this journey.
Even without a bike cover Rapido fixings cause the lights to be obscured. They are somewhat lacking in the responsible department.
