Have just got hold of an old peugeot boxer 1995 campervan and it is registered as a motor caravan on the V5 - I did a few quotes (we have 2 cars one with RAC and the other with swift cover) always as you go through they ask about no claims - have 9 years on both cars, 9 years earned by me and 9 years earned by my wife - so 2 seperate no claims. As i understand you cant use the same no claims on 2 cars, so how do you go on with campervans as i'll only be doing max 5000 miles per year.

As you can guess am a newbie to campervans!

Most specialist Motorhome Insurers offer what they call "mirror" policiies - they accept what NCB you have earned on your car and "mirror" it - you can continue with your car policy and the new policy for the Motorhome will be the same rate of NCB.

At least it was for me.

Try Comfort Insurance.

Several possibilities.

Many companies offer an introductory discount equivalent to a full no claims, provided you can show a full no claims on another vehicle.

Comfort do not do no claims discount but offer polices effectively net of full no claims.

My first year with Staveley Head was £306. Full comp. wife included, etc.
Just insured with Comfort, 2005, 2.8 Turbo diesel, value at £25K, full European cover, etc. £258.74 and with full European RAC cover (over 3.5 tons) total of £316.81.
Freephone on 0800 0304 206.

Try Safeguard for a quote. They also mirror your NCB.
Good luck.
strange policy with safeguard...

i am insured with them and they mirrored my car NCB

just had my renewal and it clearly states i'm now entitled to 1 year NCB and the premium has come down around £40 which equates to around 7%.

oddly the premium INCREASED slightly yet the monthly payments went down, which is where the £40 comes from.

So, it appears they accept 'earned elsewhere' NCB and also give an accrued, but not discounted, annual NCB.

suppose it could be proof of earned NCB if you leave them

Safeguard give you a couple of years mirrored not your whole no claims.
I have 10 years plus and they started me on 2 3 yrs ago so I'll have 5 at this May's renewal. It has effectively kept my premium the same each year as the premium inches up the ncd brings it back down. :thumb:

Edit
Btw safeguard policy covers both of you to drive with unlimited mileage. It is not cheaper having just you to drive.

then safeguard must be the cheapest RV insurer in the land.
they were a couple of quid more expensive than the next cheapest who were mirroring my full NCB for my first years cover.

main reasons i took cover with them was unlimited windscreen cover (replacement cost = £5000+)and inclusive breakdown cover....no weight, length or height restrictions.

Just another tip if you sign up with cashback -

You will get quite a bit off the policy BUT don't use there compare insurance as you get cashback on the lower amount, I am getting £55.55 off the insurance (it takes several months) if i had gone through cashback compare I would have got £28.50
So here is how you get the higher cashback amount, signup to cashback (you do that anyway) then do a general search for RAC, click on RAC car insurance and that takes you through to the RAC insurance site, cashback remembers where you have been and allocates savings.

It's a genuine site and have saved over £300 in 2 years by just going through them when buying stuff, used to use quidco before that but cashback payout is better since they started advertising on TV. Hope this helps guys.
