The structure seems functional, but does look to me more like a black prosthesis for an alien being? I must be missing something?
I will have to wait, but can the alien?
Joking:ROFLMAO:

This is how it looks on it's own planet

All is revealed! Thanks!
Although there is probably enough room to accommodate the carrier/wheel, I don't think my low clearance Alko chassis will give me enough 'working space' to fit or remove the wheel.
Will check!

No idea how it works nor how it looks with wheel in place but thanks for posting and reply to my query.

Thanks Mel
I need to shorten the boiler dump pipe and fit a 90 angle to it to take it away from dumping into the spare.
I realise now that I'd get away with 50x50 angle iron but other than that it went in easy as planned. I'm waiting for some wheel bags to arrive so I can protect the spare then fit it. Job done

Some people have been in direct contact with the seller to order one. I think quite a few are going to follow my lead.
Important thing is to make sure you order for the right size wheel (not all sellers realise there is a difference) the bolt circle diameter of 15" is 118 and 16" 130 so not interchangeable
Also do not buy one without the winding shaft! it is 5 sided as a theft deterent and probably expensive to buy on its own.

Nice piece of kit, but again looking at the underbody height of my Alko chassis I have still reservations of the available working space needed with your spare wheel?
As you know the wheels weigh in at about 65pounds and there will be less space to work in if you have a completely flat rear tyre?
I could be wrong !

Unless I get a double flat I can still move. I crawled under my van several times while measuring and fitting so If I cant get in from one side I'll get in from the other.
I would of course where possible use the assistance of a curb or get the Quatro's out :thumb:

Agility and not being overweight are essential attributes

Also you don't take the weight of the wheel under the van, just need to lift one edge about 3" while locating the hub fixing.
I use an old curtain laid across the ground under it, once detached the wheel will drag out on it.

Since May 05 (Ex Tuggers).
I have to say Andy, that it does look like a nifty piece of kit, and a very tidy installation. :thumb:

It's something I would be keen on, if the room taken up in our rear garage by the spare, was much needed storage space, but it is attached to the inner rear wall, out of the way of general storage. TBH, it is easier for me to access the spare from the interior, by lifting the rear fixed bed on gas struts, than it is to access it from the garage door. The trouble is, it's a bit of a heavy bu##er, as I am sure you already know. :roflmto:

Cheers,

Jock.

I couldn't figure out how it worked at first, but it is basically the same as the arrangement on my Discovery, unfortunately without the option of raising the suspension to off-road height to get it out more easily.
I will take a look under my Rapido (Mercedes) but I don't think there's as much room underneath as you have.

I discovered a bonus which was promted by a question I was asked
Whilst dropping the wheel today to extend the hot water dump pipe

I thought about the question and fully unwound the cable to discover it will reach the nearside of the van

It also winds back up from there too!

A bit of added security
