Not Long Enough...!!
One of our Solar Regulators does not have a digital display so going to fit extermal Amp meter. The meter has a internal shunt upto 10 amp so its direct connection.
But unsure where to get feed from, We know it will be on neutral (-) side but would we connect to solar input side of regulator or battery side...Link Removed

It should be fitted on the output (battery) side of the regulator to give the right reading. It can be in the positive or negative line, though obviously connected the right way round.

Why have more than one regulator though?

We have 4x80w throu a digital display 24amp regulator. A 20w panel throu a 10 amp regulator (this replaced original manufacture panel which was 3/5w)
Then just fitted a 100w panel with 10amp regulator which has no digital display. This is the one to check feed.

All our solars and wind charger are fed through a shunt on the negative side of the battery bank. The digital readout is a MTC magnetronic DCC 2000. It works the same as your fuel gauge on your car giving amps in and amps out, voltage and total amps left. A superb system that is normally used on boats.

You could just wire the 100w panel to the 20w one (in parallel) and put them both through the 10a regulator with the display. No way is 120w going to produce more than 10A.

Am afraid not as this has now been replaced with a upgraded model, but if you Google MTC magnetronic it should point you in the right direction. These units are renowned for there reliability as the one fitted to the bus was fitted by the manufacturer in 1990 and still working fine. I have no idea how much they are, but don't think they will be cheap. Having said that, not much is that's any good :winky:. The shunt is fitted next to the battery bank and the MTC is a remote fitted inside the van so as you can tell at a glance what's happening. Having spoken to a few boat friends they tell me they are generally used on high end yachts.

Your van must be over 100ft to have enough space for that many panels!!!!!!

Pretty much the same functions as this at just £99 including a 100amp shunt and wiring harness
