Help! I need to make sure we have enough gas for Chester and so far I have wasted half the day trying to sort this out. I have a part used 13kg Calor Gas propane cylinder which currently weighs 18.3kgs. How much gas is in there? The silver collar is very difficult to read but it clearly has 2 numbers on it 32 & 12.
As well has this we have a half full 6kg Calorlite.
I am sure I saw a really good article on this somewhere but cannot find it now.
Thanks
Sandra

Hi Sandra I'd say you have more than enough to last you a weekend and if you sit in someone else's van during the day you can use their gas :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

you really do need to know the empty weight of the bottle as even calor dont state the weight, saying the tare weight is stamped on the collar in pounds and ounces.

i would think at just over 18kg it is 3/4 full....the maximum gas weight being 13kg when full.

as a guide, a 6kg bottle weighs around 4.5lbs empty

according to calor a full 13kg bottle should last for around 65hrs running a 3kw gas fire continuously so i really dont think you will run out.

:ROFLMAO: have just found out how to check it. Forget the maths, bring cylinder into warm house and condensation forms up to the level of the gas, simples :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Just did me back in carrying it into house:Doh:

Collar indicates in lb & ozs the empty weight of the bottle.

For a 6kg bottle (cos that's what I've got here to check):

Empty weight in "lb oz" 19 04 = 8.731 kg

Actual bottle weight = 14.6 kg - (empty weight) 8.731kg = 5.869kg (Almost full bottle)

Hope this helps.

On that reckoning I have 3.5kgs in the big bottle and about 3kgs in the small one - I think  32.12lbs bottle = 14.5kgs
14.5kgs + 13kgs of gas = 27.5kgs, bottle now weighs 18kgs so take off 14.5 and I have 3.5kgs of gas. Is this right?

Brilliant, thanks for all of your help folks.

One more question though - with the money I have saved by not having to go and get a gas refill, should I go to the Joules sale tomorrow to get a new pair of pretty wellies?

Of course I should, why Am I even hesitating about this!!::bigsmile:
