Since April 1846 but have always camped.
I need an inverter to charge my iPad/ iPhones and possibly a mac book air.
Any idea what size inverter I would need please? And does it need to be pure sine wave?
Are there likely to be any at Newark this weekend?

Many thanks.

Why not use 12v adapters?

Sorry, but do you really need an inverter when you could use 12v adapters to charge all these which would use less of your leisure battery power?

I would second the 12v converters. Kinder to your battery.
I would consider spending money on a couple of those rather than a single inverter.

Why ?

If your widgets are not capable of handling an iPad shop around.. Mine both cost £5.00 from the local car shop.

I actually use two of them as we have two iPads and my Galaxy also uses a usb lead

I have a selection of adapters and cables.
Things that look like this.

Link Removed

I have a retractable USB cable kit with adapters for all 3 types of USB port. A retractable lead with the normal pin type connector on for my sony prs-505...

I can leave these plugged in all the time without wasting too much battery power. If I was to use an inverter I would either have to charge all my devices at the same time or worry about how much quiescent power the inverter was using...

Yes I have these, great bit of kit but wont charge the mac air, the can will, I know you can also buy 12v adaptors to charge mac books, but would you use a cheap adaptor to charge around £1000 worth of silver box?

There are other adapters for the macbooks. Can't recommend a specific one as I am not daft enough to spend £1000 for £500 worth of computer :reel::whistle:

This one looks to do the job, there are loads on ebay.

If you don't trust ebay, try Amazon and just tick Amazon only as the supplier.

Having said that I do plug my £2,000 Dell into one of these ebay devices, I also plug my £300 asus laptop into a different one and I will be plugging a similar device into my £500 samsung galaxy note when I get it...

The way I look at it. You are stepping 12v up to 240v just to plug an adapter in that will drop it back down to 12-19V.

If something goes wrong with the charger and the 240v hits your gear you will be in a lot more trouble than if my cheap converter goes wrong and passes raw 13V along...

Each to their own though :thumb:

This according to a reviewer is the same one as apple supplied.

Thanks for all your excellant advice. I have just found a 12v adapter in a TomTom box (new!) that has 2 USB ports in it including a high speed one that seems to do the job.
Cheers.
