Just want to big it up for Mark CLS for his help with a problem I had. Basically whilst driving through Annecy last week my youngest shouted out the back that the habitation door had swung open, fortunately or not depending on whether you like the French, no French person was hit by it this disaster door opening.

The following row and autopsy ensured with me of course blaming Nikki for the not shutting the door properly. However, no further problems until I got back home and began cleaning the van after the ski trip.
Whilst doing so I had a close look at the door. It's a euromax door and it had clearly de-laminated and was moving within the frame of the door. That's not the hinged frame, but the frame with in the way the door is made. You would have to see it to probably understand it fully.. However during this experiment it was clear to see that there was significant movement with the door and possible enough for it to not shut properly and allow it to open if it were unchecked. Another poblem I had on at least two occasions was that despite it being unlocked, I could not open it from the outside.

Anyhow, I knew when I brought the van that this door type did have some issues, and my door had always been a lttle stiff and difficult to shut. I contacted Swift, whom I must say were very helpful to a degree. I listed to them all the minor issues that I have had to deal with with the van since purchase. They kindly traced my van and informed me that none of the services were carried out on the van. They said they had sent 4 recall notices to the owner to have a couple of rectification jobs done. This included having the rear arches replaced which was done in the first year of ownership, but nothing since.

When I got the price of the door from sift £1600 plus fitting, I nearly picked up a defib machine.
Anyhow, Iv'e known Mark CLS for some years now and rang him up to ask some advice. We had a think about it and being a swift engineer he had a different (new but used) door in stock for 10% the cost of a new Euromax one (a halton type).

We had a measure and we toyed with the idea of whether it would fit it or not. By 7pm that night I was on my way to Marks to pick it up. He also gave me all the info I needed for fitting it and some adhesives etc.

Mark said it should take about 3 hours, however, me being a specialist Nurse and not a joiner/builder/insert trade here, it took me at least twice that. I had to make some very minor modifications and I need a bit of rubber door seal to be found to finish the look off inside, but I now have a very posh and very decent looking door which in my mind is even better than the Euromax type.

It was with some trepidation that I took on this task and Nikki and I had been rapidly searching for a new van instead. However, we love our van, its classy, only just 5 years old, gorgeous to drive, now fully winterised :winky: and we really do not want to change it just yet.
But with Mark's knowledge and helpfulness, guiding me through by telephone whenever I was stuck I no longer have to change the van.

So thank's Mark, :thumb::thumb: very much appreciated

Note to others,
Don't ignore recall notices,
ensure regular services ( unless you have a mate like mark )
Check your door is shut !!!!!!

Happy travels funsters. :thumb:

The new one is much much better, it closes without any problems at all.

I reckon even a wasted person like Jon, could shut it without an issue.

Ok so I have been asked for pictures.

The first are of the removal of the door,

The Inner skin,

and finally the Frame

I took the door off the outer frame to make it slightly easier with the weight.

I then fitted the new door, removed the graphics and replaced them with the graphics that match my van.

Since 2006
I reckon all that extra hagging caused a heat build up and melted the adhesives in the old door!

We had our own little dramas on the ski holiday. We suffered 2 water leaks due to our water pipes not feezing, but MELTING!:Eeek:

Chausson's method of preventing frost by running hoses close heater ducting was TOO effective!

Good repair Paul!
