Assuming you're arriving in Kent late evening (say around 10pm) to catch an early ferry from Dover the following day, and you're too late to use the Canterbury Park'n'Ride or a campsite, what overnight parking options exist apart from the M2 Medway Service Area?

Given that we're travelling from NW England to Kent on the evening before Good Friday I'm not optimistic about getting all the way to the SE Coast before we both fall asleep at the wheel, but the Dover/Hythe spots are certainly worth knowing about if we're really stuck, so thanks for that.

On one previous occasion we pulled into a set back lay-by on the A2 near Kent Motorcycles, but that'd probably be full of trucks by the time we arrived.

Marine Parade again!

I was one of 20+ parked there last summer. Nice area to wander about or even take a dip too.

Theres more than one layby on the A2 mate and if you go down to the macdonalds roundabout, turn right, then right at the next roundabout, there is a truckstop on a large ind estate. If you google earth the area around the Kent MC layby, there are some even off the A2, but running paralell.:thumb:

Nice restaurant there too. I think it's called"The Minnis". Right on the beach.

Kent county council have closed the layby`s on A2 for 6 month experiment as i understand, some complaints about the truckers leaving waste around. Hythe nice town to visit and parking in military road ideal spot.
Alternatively folkestone by the grand hotel nice cliff top victorian walk, 20 min max to ferry or 10 min to tunnel no cost to either.
