First thing I do if I buy a new machine with Norton pre-installed is to delete it. Norton is fine for large network use but far too intrusive, resource heavy and complex for normal home or small office use.

since 2005 (but 30 years caravanning)
you can upgrade to Windows 8 for £25 and that includes a virus checker (offer may expire in a couple of days though!)

Or get windows security essentials free.

Or get the free version of AVG.

Paying for Norton does not seem like a good idea!

Agree with the others, it's also a bugger to get rid off ..

you can use the Norton Removal tool

then I would run CCleaner to get rid of old registry entries left behind

or use Revo Uninstaller.. that will get most of it .. and clean the registry

AVG Free seems to do a good job for nothing. I haven't used Norton or Macaffee for ages on any of our family's computers.

I would retrieve before deleting the account and store on a back up hard drive..

If you really need/want cloud storage, there are other free providers.. including Google

If you want to use norton, then do the rounds of the comp shops such as staples etc as they often have the discs on offer. When they are, buy them - yours may not run our for a few months, but get them when on offer!

That way you won't pay any more than 25 pounds tops!

I've had Norton now for a few years, and yes, it does come as a shock when confronted with a £55 renewal.....
...but... if you log on here you'll get the genuine article cheaper ...
