Sadly, I think that the WRC as a spectator sport has ended. I used to be a great fan of what used to be the RAC Rally – around 150 cars, 5 days, 55 stages, starting in the stately parks on a Sunday, then it was off to Mid Wales, North Wales, into Yorkshire, Kielder, the Lake District, sometimes into the Scottish Borders, then back home to Chester, Harrogate, Nottingham or wherever else it started. Works teams from Lancia, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Mazda, Skoda, Ford, Vauxhall, Pegueot, Volkswagen etc. £5 a car to get you into a stage, you could get to 2 or 3 a day if you planned it well. What an adventure it used to be! Now we have a couple of works teams, with a 2.5 day 20 stage sprint through Wales labelled “The GB Rally ??” with one or two dominant drivers, (simply because there are few alternative 'seats' available) and it costs you a relative fortune to watch. It’s finished I’m afraid. So sadly, it’s really no surprise that any TV channel wants to take it.

Totally agree used to do club and nationals myself i the 70s & 80s (Escort twin cam,Sunbeam Lotus ) Todays WRC is just to fast and no fun to watch.
Best Rallying to watch these days is the RAC (Roger Albert Clark Rally) on youtube:thumb:

And of course, the privateeers and club members could afford to pay their entry fee in those days, and run alongside the world's top drivers, and for them, it was a true achievement to make it to the finish. It used to amuse me when you got your 'rich boys' or their kids, with their brand new Imprezzas or Evos trying their very best, but without getting their car too dirty - and trailing the old Escorts giving it everything. :thumb:

EDIT: Useful link there from Aba (Thanks!) S4C wasn't always availabe outside Wales, but it's on Sky: Channel 134

Didn't expect anything else from Sky. If it isn't making them a fortune like football they just pull the plug. Not even any DVD's of the 2012 championship either.
We will have to slit our wrists as we watch the glory guys kicking balls around a field for £100,000 per day.

Now you are talking real rallying, when drivers weren't remote controlled. My most memorable event was the very first Jim Clark Memorial Rally from Duns, fantastic event. Everyone was a friend or relative and to see how it has progressed is amazing. Closing roads in the early days was unheard of and we were idiots to suggest such a thing.
This has brought back a minefield of memories and depression thinking of how much was spent back then. I could have bought my dream motorhome for the cash I spent in the 60/70's on rallying.

My very favourite rally series at the moment is the BHRC, (British Historic Rally Championship, also on Motors TV, to see all those valuable Escorts etc being driven to the absolute limit, sideways, is amazing, watch it if you are a rally fan, you won't regret it I promise. :thumb:

Just resurrecting this rally-thread .....

Yesterday evening on BBC2, Sir Chris Hoy looked back at the life and career of the late Colin McRae, and after a little instruction from Jimmy McRae took Colin's title-winning Subaru for a spin through his final 1995 WRC title-winning stage, as well as a spin over the dunes of the Paris-Dakar course. It shows that Chris Hoy just may have had some rally potential had he taken to four wheels instead of two. Some great footage, and well worth watching for those that have an interest
