If you've used your motorhome recently don't forget to drain it down. Light frosts and you might get away with just emptying your tanks, but if it gets as cold as they are promising in the next few days; then you need to completely drain down.

  1. All the liquids out, Fresh and grey, open those taps and maybe get the last out with a spin round the block. Don't forget the black.
  2. Make sure your water heater is empty.
  3. Run your taps for a little while to empty the pipes (don't damage your pump by running too long)
  4. Don't forget your toilet flush if you have one.
  5. Water filters can catch you out, make sure they are completely empty, or if easily removed, take it out.
  6. Turn the 12v off and then open up all your taps, if they are mixer taps then put them in the mid position.
  7. Remove your shower-head, you be amazed at how much water it might hold
  8. Remove any jars of food or beers, wine and champagne that might crack if they freeze.
(Lesson learned last year) Remove the fuse to your pump, so when your other half enters the motorhome and flicks the 12v master switch on to do some faffing about and packing, they don't burn out your pump.

Her.."Ooo what's that smell"
Me.."You've burned the pump out, the taps are open and the pumps been running dry for the hour you've been in here"
Her...Oh, i wondered what that buzzing noise was
Me... :swear:

With the locker open there is usually a bit of see through vertical pipe that shows the fluid level. If you pull this out of its clips you can drain most of it, then flush the loo to get the last bit out.

If its a Thetford when you take the cassette out
there is a little tube ( grey/ green colour on mine)
With a little stopper in the end

Pull the little tube out remove stopper lower till fluid runs
Drain to a 18 litre container

That fluid can be stored till next trip time

[HI]
Don't forget to put the stopper and cassette back
And while the cassette is out make sure the kids know
[/HI]

Leave the flap open on the toilet bowl save
You damaging the seals
Some suggest a little olive oil in first to lubricate the seal
Then leave it open

Ours is left open when the van is not in use
After the cassette has been emptied and flushed of course

Why don't you just mix some anti-freeze in with it?

All drained down now, but thanks for the suggestions. Got the de-humidifyer on in there just on a low setting to keep things nice and dry. Will probably have her out again for a drive in a couple of days and just carry what water I need to make tea!

Roll on Spring!

Its going to be around minus 10 here tonight. Is there anything in your van that might freeze and make a mess or break something?

Have hooked it up to mains on the drive and set Heating control to 'Frost' since November. Reckon it's cost me around £50 in lecky but haven't had to empty it or drain it down and it's been ready to go whenever I wanted [albeit I've only been out for a couple of nights since...]
