Well in the M/H anyway

Anyone care to recommend a short trip to France
Avoiding Paris

With nice scenic route easy drives (under 100Miles) and no motorways
plus a couple of nice local campsites
ideal for the beginner.

Hoping to go April/May time before it gets too hot
or silly holiday season.

Thanks for advice hopefully

7 Years after 5 years with caravan.
We did a tour of northern France a while ago and included the following places:

Calais
Reims - very picturesque city, fabulous cathedral, camping not far from town
Troyes - also very picturesque, camping walking distance of town centre
Fontainebleau - spectacular royal residence, camp out of town and catch bus
Chartres - lovely old town, famous cathedral, camping by R. L'Eure, easy walk to town

After Chartres head for Le Havre for the ferry back to Portsmouth.

The route on the map is from Autoroute and has been plotted avoiding m'ways and tolls.

Calais to Reims is 180 miles but stop at an Aire en route
Reims to Troyes is about 92 miles
Troyes to Fontainebleau is about 80 miles - not sure where the camping is (can check)
Fontainebleau to Chartres is about 85 miles
Chartres to Le Havre is about 70 miles

We thoroughly enjoyed visiting all these places and would do it again.

Aug 09 to date 9,000 miles!
Depends what you like really doesn't it?

Have a look at

It's brilliant and huge FUN. 2 aires, either side of the town/seafront.

Seafront closed to traffic, giant fun market all along there, eateries etc etc. On the last Saturday night, music and floodlit kite 'ballet' amongst other displays (dance schools putting on a bit of 'modern' or whatever) and fantastic fireworks. Stake out your pitch on t'front of t'esplanade before it starts LOL

Why on earth am I telling you this? I should keep it under my hat in case we can't find a space, shouldn't I? So will you park crossways on the beach aire when you get there please?

The French do grand job of keeping alive the memory of what the Natzies did. We should never let it be swept under the carpet.

And this place shows both ends of the Natzi spectrum. Brutal slave labour to create facilities for genius engineers to work.

The V2 project created the world we know, because it was the need for lightweight sturdy electronics funded by American military for the their "V2s" that funded the microprocessor revolution.

The V2 gas flow research also enabled a revolution in two stroke motorcycle engines by the East Germans.
