Our ferry arrives in Bilbao at 18:30 so we're looking for somewhere very close to the terminal to park preferably free!
Is it possible to park at the approach road to the ferry departure gate?

Be very careful. I've seen posts on here that says MH parking is banned. The picture shown was very unclear, I'd have thought the sign said that you could park. All on here but a good while ago, so it just might be Bilbao.

Supposedly no motorhome parking in either Bilbao or Santander, I think most that land at bilbao drive to a garage/services not far from bilbao on their route south, hopefully one of them will notice your question and post it on here
Things portside were tightened up some years ago after they received threats of possible bomb being placed on a ship, and the towns stopped motorhomes parking in the streets and on the approach to the port

Have looked at the Broken Link Removed website and found these two for Bilbao - ones free, the other is 15 euros - but if you have a look at the website you may be able to find some a little further out. We downloaded this website onto a usb stick for 8 euros which means we can use this without the internet, great for aires all over Europe.

Thanks for all the replies.
Looks like we'll be staying at the port overnight and then on our merry little way next morning.

I had asked the same question on here and got positive vibes but to make sure I contacted Brittany Ferries and asked them where, precisely, the parking was. The following is their response, unchanged apart from my real name and the name of the sender, she did not give me permission to use her name so I removed it. I will be there on the night of the 9th January.

Dear Mr JohnH,

Thank you for your email.

Parking for camper vans, caravans and cars is available overnight in the
terminal car park at Bilbao port.

It is a small, air-conditioned terminal at the port, offering limited
facilities, including toilets and vending machines. There is a snack bar
for sandwiches, hot and cold drinks and snacks. The nearest restaurants
can be found in the small fishing port of Zierbena, approximately 1km
from the terminal.

I hope this helps,

Kind regards

I shall be staying there (at the port) the night of Jan 16th.

I have stayed there before and its fine. It makes it clear that it is allowed on the Brittany Ferries web site.

Another one is at Navarette. They sell the local Rioja in reception which delayed slightly my departure next morning.::bigsmile:

Hell of a motorhome driver. It's 417 miles.

I wouldn't like to follow you on a hard day's drive !

But I prefer you way to those on here who advocate 50 miles a day.

We try to do beteen 350 -450 a day if heading South with limited time.

We try to get away 7am or 8 am and then be parked up at destination by 4 pm.

I find 500 miles just a bit too far in the motorhome although I have done it a few times.

In answer to the original question. We stayed at the port overnight along with about 20 other assorted motorhomes and tuggers. Some of the tuggers who came off late were directed to further down. We stayed just after the immigration kiosk about 100 metres from there, sharp right and then another 50 metres. The following day we drove the 500 miles or so to Marjal.
Sat here the day after drinking wine and sitting in the sun. Enjoy the snow and the cold.
