The Statement...

"Off Site Motorhomers have more adventures and meet a wider range of people than those staying on camp sites."

What do you think?

JJ

Not too sure about this JJ as when we are off site we tend to be on our own - only exception being aires in France and we have met some great people there.

Not true!

Most wild camping is a solitary affair. Whereas on a campsite or aire a lot of people from all walks of life are thrown together.

Most adventures (?) or experiences are made by getting out on 'shanks's pony' and meeting local people, so it doesn't really matter where your transport is parked.

But surely there are many more people to meet than those who are in motorhomes... or tuggers...

I suspect few locals wander though campsites and chat with the "residents."

We haven't done much "wild camping" but don't often stay on sites either, we much prefer France Passion, where we have met loads of people. Aire's as well we normally get chatting to people and often locals in the local bar.
I agree as well that the dog is a people (and other dog) magnet, especially in France. She has nearly got as many "doggy" friends as we have.

I would never argue with you my Princess... because you are obviously right... :winky:

If I did argue with you I could say that I met you at Shepton Mallet Show Ground which, of course, is not a camp site...

But I wouldn't say that would I? :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Not being much of a site user I cant really comment. Dont have a dog to walk any more, even though my dogs did get me to talk to locals, mostly magistrates .
I find petanque is the best way of meeting locals and finding the best bars, restaurants wines etc in any given area in France. Have played with some of the best and can say with all honesty have held my own much to the surprise of the old boys who inevitably ask me to take an aperitif with them.
I don't think it matters much if you are on or off site, as long as you are prepared to mix with the locals and enjoy there company as I have always done, regardless of where you are.

We met more people on french aires this year than on any site. I must admit to preffering to chat to people at service points or aires than at a site, we try to avoid sites if possible using cl's etc in this country.

Well, I didn't know about this sort of details . I thought it was a campsite. To me a campsite is a place where you have a reception, a shop, a bar quite often and sometimes even a restaurant, facilities and where people stay either with tents caravans or motorhomes... which was the case at Shepton Mallet. Obviously it was not an aire or wild camping ...was it?
One sure thing is you were not travelling but static:Smile: and ...errr mixing up with people ::bigsmile:::bigsmile:

It is not the number that counts, it is the type and quality of the people who you meet. Personally I prefer sites. The people you meet on sites have a sense of fun and a lack of thriftiness. :winky:

Never ever did understand motorhomers washing up in camp site sinks...

Very unlikely that they would find anything about me interesting... :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

The "false?" impression being, that those who don't stay on campsites are kill joys and skin flints.

What a terrible generalisation to make - but if I had only stayed on camp sites I am sure I could have come to the same conclusion.
