Be rude not too.

We are going back to Val T in the feb half term, we have about 4 or 5 vans at the moment. Going to put it in the calendar in a few weeks in case anyone else would like to join in.

Just saving up the cash now,

We're both snowboarders. Can we not do the extremely tiresome skier v snowboarder discussion please... (bound to be a red rag to someone).

The wife is keen to do a trip with the MH, BUt as far as I can tell you pretty much need a generator, and everything else such as a place to stay, water, waste disposal are very much a lottery unless you book a proper site. In which case unless you're able to spend more than 2 weeks out there you'll not gain anything over flying and staying in a hotel except for he experience.

I'm a big fan of the US for winter sports, particularly Utah. I'm not altogether convinced.

Sell me on it.

Not a skier but we spent wo nights at Pia Engaly in the Pyranness 5amp leccy so no need for the genny. Dump and water plus a shower in the heated hut. Leccy for about 100 vans.

We might be going in early April with no. 1 daughter

As someone entering year 7 of skiing with a motorhome in at least 12 resorts, and at never more than a fortnight at a time,, you are so so wrong ^^^^^^

As some one that can board as well as ski, sorry you said I'm not allowed to do the tiresome discussion dam drat.

Try www.motorhomeski.co.uk and you may then come round to our way of thinking.

Basically, the 'Flot Bleau' is a MH service point. You get potable water and grey and black waste facilities. There is often hookup available for a limited period too.
Tokens can be bought at the local municipal site or carpark office. In the case of Val Thorens, they come free with the parking charge.

Bloody snowboarders!
No sense of adventure!:ROFLMAO:

We are having 2 weeks in Val Thorens this season. A self-catering apartment for 4 is around £3K, our parking in VT, 100 yards from the lifts, is £220.

Motorhome 1, Hotel Nil

We are taking our own kit, there are no excess baggage charges, no body cavity search at the airport, you even keep your shoes on in your MH! No airport parking to pay for!

Motorhome 2, Hotel Nil

Resort supermarkets will bleed you dry and eating out requires a small mortgage, we are taking all our food with us from Tesco!

Motorhome 3, Hotel Nil

We will have no schedule to keep, no transfers to meet, no particular time to arrive, no particular time to leave.

Motorhome 4, Hotel Nil

We will have THE BEST views over the valley and will see the sunrise and the sunset!

Motorhome 5, Hotel Nil

HOWEVER-

You do need a well insulated van with good blown air heating with a plentiful fuel supply, internal water system (except waste, we drain into a bucket!), silver screens, good batteries and a supplementary charging system ie. genny or battery-to-battery/alternator-to-battery charger. Solar won't keep you topped up with the limited hours of daylight and a standard MH alternator won't charge your batteries fully or quickly.

Our diesel bill will about £600, including heating, our gas will be a tenner. The ferry will be £110. To fly over will be a similar cost for four, if you include transfers and airport parking.
For this reason, I am discounting these costs from the comparison.

So, Motorhome 5, Hotel 1!:thumb:

So come and have a go if you think you're hard enough!:roflmto:

Jon you forgot that there are no major delays driving with the M/H, where as when we have flown on several occasions in the past we had anything from a 4hour delay to 12 hours sitting on floors etc as everywhere was crowded and still possibly a long coach ride with no facilities ...if the coach will wait :winky:

ps we are now skiing in January too with CLS etc had hoped to go in feb as longer days but this works out better for us now and with the ENEC code only £48 return :thumb:

But if self catering etc we can recommend Peak Retreats the french alps specialists :thumb:
