We were in the Pico's mountains for a few days if that helps and stayed in Zarautz on the way back to Bilboa.
I posted a few photos of the trip on the members albums.

Pissed down 6 days of 7 last Easter.

Not for me again but visit Santilliana Del Mar - some great restaurants and nice old commercial village.

We stayed at a Camp site at the Fuente-De cable car. Your van can't be too long though, about 6m is the limit for that one!
Another site we stayed at was Camping la Paz, near Llanes, it has a lovely private beach, a clubhouse, small shop and a lovely terraced landscape, all pitches have an amazing sea view. Be prepared for reverse polarity EHU, however.

http://www.campinglapaz.com/

On both sites, you'll be scrabbling your way up the inclines in a FWD van! We actually got stuck on bone-dry cobbles in our Elddis at Fuente De!!!!
At Camping la Paz, the owner has a Landrover Discovery and he uses this to site people's caravans!::bigsmile:

Also bear in mind, you won't be far from Biarittz, just over the border. There's an excellent aire there 200m from the beach!:thumb:

all that coast asturia and cantarbria and galecia are fantastic places to visit . we do it most years in spring either finishing off the spain portugal trip or spain morocco trip.
there are lots of camp sites but in early spring when we are there most are closed . thats good we dont use them . find lots of free camping . hope to be entering galecia about march next year and catching the boat at santander end april . i know we shall enjoy it . some great places . lots of places in the pico,s to stop . again we wild up there . good parking by the lakes .
you will love it . best area of spain in my book.

I'm a newbie
Picos de Europa

The access to Camping La Paz is much easier now, the road leads directly from the new island that came as part of the autovia contruction at Pendueles, it's the first exit as you enter the island (on the right of course)

If you do not need campsite facilities there is a Spanish "Stelplatz" in Cangas de Onis, a nice town with the "Puente Romano" seen in all guide books to Asturias, plenty of good restaurants.....always go for Menu del Dia great food at a good price 8-11€ including bread, wine, 2 courses plus dessert, the first course is NOT a starter it's about the same size as your second so be warned if you don't have a big appetite....pace yourself :Eeek:

The overnight parking at Playa de Toro in Llanes is no longer available to high vehicles thanks to Dolores our Alcaldesa who has had height restricting barriers installed recently:Angry:

It does rain here...that's why it is green and beautiful....the costas it aint::bigsmile: (and long may it remain so) the coastal strip is quite narrow with the mountainds in places being only 2-3 kms from the sea so it creates a micro-climate....it can work for you some days and others? just move on! the weather can change in 30kms or less, heading south through the mountains can often bring sunny skies....I ride motorcycles for a living so I know where to go to get out of the 40 types of rain we have here (sometimes all in the same day):thumb:

Riaño is a must to visit if you like lakes and mountains, go south via Cangas de Onis through the Desfiladero de los Beyos in the morning and return north via the Desfiladero de la Hermida in the afternoon....it's the best way to see them at their best because of the lighting. The roads have improved no end in the last 10 years so it's not such a challenge as it used to be for MH'ers but use your horn long and often in the Desfiladero de los Beyos...it will be obvious where you should do this.

Oh yes last thing ENJOY!! and don't miss out on a walk around Colombres too
Cheers Phil:thumb:

Spent a great couple of nights there-our introduction to Fabada ::bigsmile:
Ended up buying the ingredients so we could make it at home.
