Just had a lovely couple of days at a mini-meet in Traben-Trarbach - just us with Bob, Jane and Izzy. Its amazing how far us old codgers can cycle when youngsters organise the outings! Fortunately the weather has improved and we even managed to take ourselves off on our own this afternoon for another great ride. Seriously though, for anyone who enjoys easy cycling, this is the place to be. ::bigsmile:

Mosel Valley

We just returned from that area yesterday, came home via Luxembourg,(diesel approx £1.06/litre), enjoyed the area very much, but weather could have been better, rained a lot, just a short exploratory tour pre the wife retiring next year when we hope to go abroad for longer periods.:thumb:

We passed a RHD Eura Mobil today somewhere between Moselkern and Cochem and wondered if it might be Bob and Jane. We had A brill ride on the leccy bikes yesterday from Lof to the fairy tale castle at Burg Eltz.
Absolutely fab.

Not sure if we'll make Fussen - we've only got another 8 weeks.
So little time, so many fairy tale castles ......

It's a hard life, but someone has to do it.

It's grand round Fussen, start of the mountains into Austria and Italy. Had you considered a dip down into Garda ?

Could not believe how many electric bikes we saw in the Mosel valley area, we are now considering buying two for ourselves, subject to the 60KG limit of our rack, but don't know much about them, any recommendations, any to avoid??.
We also could not believe how many M/H's there were about the area as well, very pleasing to see, the authorities certainly look after us, other countries, (UK), take note !!, we will certainly be returning sometime.:thumb:

Brian thanks for tip re Fussen. We never really plan a trip, just go where the van takes us. However I would like to get to Munich. And Fussen is conceivably en routeWe spent today wandering around Bernkastel - overrun with German tourists because it's their National Reunification day today so they're all off work.
We have to get a tyre repaired tomorrow (second time this trip) and after that may indulge in a spot of Bob andJane (and Izzy) spotting. .

That must have been our dopplegangers, we were up there last week though. Still at Kesten, Izzy will have her passport stamped at Bernkastel tomorrow or Saturday (no appointment required) €8. You read that right, that is what the vet told me and he said he knows he is cheap but he wants people to keep coming back and buying the wine ::bigsmile:Jane

We returned from the Bernkastel area a few weeks ago. Pitched up for a few days on Enkirch and Wintrich stelplatz. Met with locals at Enkirch , they were having a get together for a local organisation and we were made very welcome .Also made welcome at a pub across the river from Enkirch ,ended up like a league of nations get together , but we all seemed somehow to understand and communicate fine .Probably helped by the wine and beer too though ::bigsmile:( ferry across was only 1 or 2 € ) . Enjoyed boat trips along the Mosel river to Bernkastel . It wont be our last trip down that way , thoroughly enjoyable place

And it ends in the Rhein of course. Bigger, bolder and unfortunately noisier. The Rhein Falls are a Must See.

Rhein Falls have a good aire.
Camping Loreleyblick in Sankt Goar is excellent.

Campsite top of screen LHS.

Fingers crossed for railway noise.

But otherwise a delight. Naturally the small but beautifully formed Sankt Goar is a must, riverside path from the site.

Then. possibly even nicer, take a boat or cycle to Boppard. We cycled there and took the boat back.

But the highlight, see map picture, buy genuine schwarzwaltkirchtorte 1/3 the way down the main street on the LHS. Blackforest Gateau if I've not spelled it correctly.

Now ensconced at Loreleyblick - like the campsite, managed to get a riverside pitch so plenty of interest watching the barges, boats, kayakers, ducks and other feathered birds, now that the rain has settled in for the afternoon!

Plenty of autumn colours on the way here particularly on the Rheingoldstrasse which the satnav inexplicably brought us down (guess it was a shorter route than the B9 on the left bank.

Next week will be following the Rhine through the World Heritage Site gorge down to Bingen before heading back towards France and thus ending our intro into motorhoming in Germany. That will leave plenty more to do in Germany on a future trip.

too effing cold and grey for us wusses.
Just got to Luxembourg today and will be heading South ASAP tomorrow.
Lovely afternoon with Bob and Jane (and Izzy) couple of days ago - no alcohol (WHAT? - I hear the Funsters shout!) just tea (Jane) and coffee (Bob) - Izzy declined everything.
Gwen fell off her bike returning from the Flea Market at Piesport hurting her shoulder. Then she decided that in a busy street in Trier she would get off and walk as it was safer. Unfortunately she hadn't switched off the ignition in the leccy bike and accidentally twisted the throttle making it rear up like a Lippizaner stallion (Google it) and making her fall over. This time bruising her legs and side.
Of course it was my fault.
