Evening all,

I'm out tomorrow to get a Cadac safari chef, wanting to connect to a small
gas bottle as have no external gas point on the van.

plan is to get a 3.9kg propane bottle (easier to carry around) and use it for the cadac but also as a backup for the main bottles if we run short.

are the screw connections on 3.9 and 6kg bottles the same? or is there a better option?

Cheers

same connector thread on all calor propane bottles...left hand internal thread on the bottle.

no reason not to use a butane bottle with a clip on regulator.

of course, you couldnt then use it as a backup for the main gas supply.

Make sure you get the right safari chef though - you need the low pressure one:

Good choice in the Safari Chef we use ours all the time, the roasting pan works well if you can get one.

We have an Autoquest 130 which takes two bottles, the second bottle I fitted a inline bayonet to so that I had either option of plugin to van or moving bottle or using a smaller bottle the connectors were about a fiver.

Thanks Minx, Dubious,

LP on order, may see about a van connection another time but want to use it away (garden, beach etc) hence the reason for a small bottle

Did that. Got fed up with small bottle and fitted BBQ gas point. It was very easy on my van, there was a spare blanked off outlet on the gas manifold.
