Now that the oyster season is almost upon us am getting a taste for my favourite shellfish and especially Plat de fruit de mer. So we have decided to make a last minute trip to La Baule in Brittany for a couple of weeks. This area is one of my favourite places in France and the beach is supposed to be the longest in Europe. We will be staying in the La Baule/Le Pouliguen/Pornichet areas if any other funsters are in the area during the first two weeks of September keep a lookout for us.

Fond memories of a delightful holiday many years ago when caravanning at Guerande and La Baule truly is a wonderful beach - tres chic and regarded by many Parisiennes as their own (with due regard for Paris-Plage at Le Touquet).

If I recall strict by-laws on beach - or at least were then - no radios no dogs no picnics!

However totally immaculate.

Steve

Hi Steve, I love the open air shellfish market in La Baule. Nothing in my mind is better than sitting outside one of the bars that surround the market eating shellfish washed down with copious amounts of dry white. The promenade is still very Victorian and still has the model boating pond with the old gentlemen sailing there model yachts and the old carousel still going round. I love the place after the crowds have left at the end of August.

You are of course correct Al, but having travelled down through Brittany I always think of it as Brittany. A senior moment.

La Baule generally has good weather as the bay is protected from the elements. Will certainly have a couple of bruns on you Al :thumb:
An old friend keeps the Cafe de la Gare at La Pouliguen and I normally park on his carpark for a few days as we do a little single malt tasting together :winky:. It took me about 5 years to talk him out of putting Coca Cola in it as a mixer .

Technically in Loire Atlantique/Pays de Loire administratively but still in Brittany, road signs in both languages & campaigns have been mounted to return to Brittany administavitely.

We have a static caravan on an almost exclusively French site between Escoublac and St. Andre des Eaux, had it 5 years and visited the area with caravan for many years.

Try the huitres from Kercabellec near to Mesquer/Quimiac, lots of very nice coastal aires nearby but very popular with the French, especially at weekends. Love the area.::bigsmile:
