Hi All
Gary and I live in Australia, own a caravan and travel regularly. We have not long finished a 12 month trip around Australia in our van.

We are heading to the UK late September and hiring a motor home for 6 weeks to travel your wonderful country. This is our first trip to the UK and we are very excited.
We did not want to stay in hotels or B&B's as we love the freedom and independence of having a motor home.

Have lots af questions but will surf the forum first then ask.

Cheers
Glenda

You've got to be taking too much XXXX.

September is the start of misery. You might get lucky and not see snow but it sure isn't the best time to visit.

Anyway, it's not that wonderful, that's just a rumour we put about for gullible Ozzies.

Hi hilldweller
We realise it is the begging of autumn but did not want to visit during the Olympics. We also prefer to travel off season to avoid the crowds......then we really do not know what the crowds will be like, after all we live in a HUGE country where you can really escape people, let alone crowds lol.
The weather really does not worry us, we will rug up.
At least we will not have to avoid the kangaroos on the roads. I mean that nearly hit a 6 ft one the other morning near our place?

Cheers

Autumn in Scotland is fantastic. The colours are wonderful. Do bring or buy good waterproofs though.
Prepare for journeys to take longer than you would imagine as roads can be narrow and very bendy. Also, particularly in the Highlands you will keep seeing places you want to stop.
We live in central Scotland and happy to help with any questions.
Welcome to the fun! :thumb:

Hiya Glenda

The LEZ is the Low emission zone.

If you are coming into London make sure in writing you ask the hiring company for an LEZ compliant vehicle.

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/lez/default.aspx

This tells you all about the LEZ and also has a compliance checker where you can enter the registration number of your vehicle on the link below to ensure it is compliant. That way you can avoid any nasty surprises.

The other thing in London to be aware of is the congestion charge. You can pay this up front. You can read about this here

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/congestioncharging/

hope this is helpful

Great link to the compliance checker - thank you. I was amazed to discover that our MH is compliant. Probably only amazed because I was ignorant of the rules  but nevertheless it was a great discovery.
This forum is great for learning useful stuff.
Thanks again.

Fingers crossed for you then. For a good few years now May has been best of the year.

Problem is you can't appreciate magnificent views if you can see them.

Get into Scotland and you have a tiny chance of hitting a deer, but usually they run away not towards you. Pheasants aren't so clever though.

Our last hope of 2012 of a meet we don't need wellies for is in October on the south coast near Weymouth. Do a search on Weymouth if you might be around then.
