Decided to hitch the trailer on today for the first time, thought i had better check that the electrics work ok.::bigsmile:

Open the socket to plug in and found that the trailer plug has 7 pins and the motorhome socket has 13 holes.:Eeek:

Was going to see an auto electrician tomorrow to fit my new reversing camera now i've got another job for him to sort out. More expense.

Why is there a 13 hole socket ?

maybe whoever used to own the vehicle before you (if someone did) used to tow a caravan with it as well, 13 pin is the newish euro standard socket for caravans

since 2006 ( I think ! )
The standard Euro socket has 13 connectors for a caravan, rather than as used to be, twin 7 pin connectors..
The old idea was the black 7 pin plug dealt with the trailer lights while the white ( or grey ) 7 pin plug ran the battery charging and fridge in the caravan

You can either put a 13 pin plug on the trailer or replace the 13 pin with a 7 on the van

Orrrr. you can buy a converter ( which is not my idea of great as it introduces yet another possible breakdown point ! )

I have a German constructed trailer. (I think)...

Anyway it came with a normal seven pin plug....... I had to extend the wire as my socket was right under the RV and the trailer would not reach....

I was suprised when I took the plug off it was a seven (7) that had been plugged into a 13 pin plug...:Eeek:

So out there some where you can buy a 7 into 13..

Just had a look on fleabay..... loads of them.. like this one.. Item number: 200801952614 :thumb:

Type this into Motors... 7 - 13 pin trailer plug..

Not expensive either.... expect it is cheaper than paying n electrician to sort it.. :winky:

WAYYYYY to much information !!!!

Sorry you two have lost me....

I was told that Vaseline stops or helps stop the ingress of water and stops electrical contacts from corroding..::bigsmile:

Unfortunately i will be in the North Sea during that time, got to earn the money to pay for all the things i want to do.

I am getting better at the electrics, just not always confident about it.

I don't want to rain on your parade but the 2 adapters I saw on fleabay had Female 13 pin ends and your van photo shows a 13 pin female.
So that isn't going to work.

My point was that the adapters recommended on this thread one via a link and the other by ebay number were both the wrong way round. So if the OP has bought either of those he has the wrong part.

Oh right.. I read your post as the ones you saw were the wrong way round so I responded with the ones I saw were the right way round..
I did not suggest anyone had made an error merely that both types were available

Sorry, not really used to pedantry on Fun
