Found on our mat last night. Seemed to be stunned tho I have never heard of a bat crashing into anything.
As you can see from second piccie it is beginning to raise it's head.
A few minutes later it was gone.
A Pipistrelle I think.

many many years! since I was a kid
ah a lesser horseshoe bat by the look of it. they do get disorientated and crash into things if their sonar type hearing is not working right. just leave it alone and it will soon be on its way. these bats tend to rely on fixed features like hegerows for their regular routes so keep an eye open around dusk in the same area and you will possibly see more

funny enough though, its illegal to disturb bats in the uk, but dont think the same rules apply on the continent

Thanks for that, we could not see it's face clearly and did not want to frighten it so left it be.
Is the Pipistrelle smaller yet then?

BTW yes we see em flying every evening at dusk.

Since 2009 with motorhomes several caravans then tents before that.
Funny you should post this , Ralph and I were in the garden last night. We had been out for a meal and as it was such a lovely warm evening , we decided to share a nice bottle of wine when we got back .
We were laid on the sunbeds chatting and looking up to the skies , and there were lots of bats flying around.
More than usual. I wonder if its their mating season ?

You find them in the most unexpected places....

at our scottish cottage one weekend and lifted down a large ceramic water jug of a kitchen shelf....one dead bat inside :Eeek:

never did work out how it even got in the kitchen, let alone into the jug

I'm a newbie.
All bats (and rats) in Spain are claimed to carry Rabies so I definitely wouldn't touch one! :winky:

Good advice - and not only in UK. A year or two ago we had a local bat 'expert' who died after being bitten by a rabid bat. (Most people who work with bats are routinely vaccinated against rabies, sadly, this guy wasn't)
