Fridge arrived when I was too busy to "play" with it properly...

Plugged it in and turned it to 3 (out of 5)

This morning the water and the Pepsi wasn't cold....

It was all frozen solid...

think you also have to get the right sort .some friends had a tropical version and had trouble with the settings , they thought they had the bees knees the other years in maroc .but in fact it had to be changed on return to uk .the wrong one had been sent out.

What the hell are you playing about at "Water and Pepsi". What a waste of good fridge space. Get some beer in there man and take plenty of no notice what the guest says.

Hi JJ
I suppose you have now realised why it is called a fridge/freezer:winky:
Maybe you had better keep the Engel for ICE ::bigsmile:
If you can't get used to it, we know a man who can:winky:
Have you worked out how much power it uses ?

::bigsmile:

I am certain... no mistake... they sent me the fridge/freezer I ordered. I had thought that the freezer would be separate but it is just one space and you decide how cold you want that space to be between +5C and -18C

think you also have to get the right sort .some friends had a tropical version and had trouble with the settings , they thought they had the bees knees the other years in maroc .but in fact it had to be changed on return to uk .the wrong one had been sent out.

Won't be using in the UK so shouldn't matter!

You are right... think we might just make ice in the Engel and load that into the Electrolux to help it out...

Not done any power consumtion tests yet... just moved it into the Hymer and the gauge shows 3.9 amp draw (but don't think it is very accurate.)

It maybe a touch pricey but it was packed with large sized bubble wrap which when squeezed to "pop" makes a really loud bang and feels great!

The fridge/freezer works brilliantly... it just needs the operator to learn how to get the correct setting on the thermostat.

Just above 1 (out of 5) and the contents are ice cold but not frozen... perfect.

Yesterday I dropped into the Chinese shop and bought some different sized plastic boxes so I can stack stuff in the fridge...

A report on my Engel fridge/freezer.

The first thing to report is that the fridge works... it gets things very cold.

But I had some concerns.

Firstly the cooling fan (not the compressor) ran all the time. I could not understand why the fan should run to cool the compressor when the compressor was not running.

Secondly, when plugged into the Hymer I could see it was drawing an indicated 10 amps which was much, much too much.

Thirdly, when it had reached the selected temperature the compressor stopped but restarted after only five minutes and then went on for another fifteen. Not good.

So I emailed the company with a very "soft" email explaining all this and they replied promptly saying that my suspicions were right and there was something wrong with it...

Thank goodness, because I was worried to bits they would say the performance was within normal limits and point me to some small print.

I have just asked if they have agent in Portugal and await the reply.

I am not really too concerned... I know the Engel is going to brilliant for my needs when sorted and I am "cool" about the situation (geddit?) because...

...after fitting the new gas jet 45 (£10 to buy, £10 to post here) to the ancient Electrolux fridge in the Hymer it has been working really, really well even in the scorching temperatures we have been having on this trip. :thumb: :thumb:
