I notice that, up until now, a thread asking Funsters what makes us cross gets over double the replies to a similar one asking what makes us happy...

So we prefer moaning then?

I wonder... why?

Look at the news. Must be 10:1 in favour of bad news. Maybe 100:1 when you filter out the lies pretending to be good news.

Last few days, father murdering daughter, shootings, racial abuse, avalanche, floods, conflict in The House, banking fraud. banking excesses, slavery, Syria, the Euro......

I can't recall one bit of good news.

So it's not just FUN.

In the last 8 days I've sent e-mails of complaint regarding their errors to two managing directors, one chief executive and one chairman of school governors. I've lost count of the number of times I've thanked people for good service over the same period. Perhaps it is the irritating that we remember more ::bigsmile:

Most of the time we don't realise what makes us happy ..... We only notice it ... when it has gone away...

One of our best songs writter wrote this "We only recognise 'Happiness' with the noise IT is making when leaving".

My list of what makes us happy was too long to post.

Still like a good moan at idiots and incompetence though

Can only speak for myself but living (much of the time) in France I am not bogged down with the problems that France have in the main.

Life is lighter as I either choose to ignore the bad, think it doesn't concern me, don't understand what the French are up to and only take note of the good.

Where's as although I'm out of the UK for much of the time I get to know if Beckham has hurt his toe pretty quickly or other negative things, and as others have mentioned most news is bad news, so whether in the UK or not it all looks pretty miserable there at the moment as I understand and grew up with it.

What I am saying is people who are not natives can live a lighter less stressed life in another country, maybe you are also one of those lucky few?

A very long time ago, a chap called Wilkins Micawber once said

"Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen pounds nineteen and six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery."

He'd actually said it in a book a long time before I heard him say it on telly in black and white - and it's as true today as it was when Charles Dickens put those words into his mouth.

You spend a long time in the second category striving to achieve the first one and when you get to the first one - it's a very happy place to be indeed.

OK Popeye, I'll amend that ...

I spent a long time ... and when I arrived - I thought (and for the moment continue to think) it was(is) a very happy place !

Wilkins McCawber was also famous for saying " something will turn up", which is the way I look at expenditure.

Now, where is that lottery ticket?
